Downrigging in a 14' Aluminum

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Downrigging in a 14' Aluminum

Post by BBRich »

Is it worth even trying??

I have the portable riggers and access to an outboard. My dad used to do it in the Burlington area years ago just wondered if it's even worth it to attempt with a 14' aluminum?? Most guys I see riggin have pretty huge crafts out there!

BBR,

I've got 2 Cannons on my 15 footer....no problems at all!

If you are headed out on the great lakes.....just really watch the weather reports....I've had mine out at Port Hope with no problems....

It open alot of doors for ya!

I too used downriggers on my 14ft boat for years. Never had a problem. Its definatley worth it. I've even used the scotty portables on canoes in small lakes with no launch.

Rich I have a down rigger on my 10' inflatable, simply put if you want depth control then riggers are the way to go, and you don't have to be fishing salmon or trout
