Gagnon's Fire!!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Gagnon's Fire!!

Post by tinbanger »

Heard tonight that Gagnon's Sporting goods in Oshawa was totalled by fire this morning.
Heard good things about the place to just a bit too far to drop in a check out.

Last I heard there were no injuries , thankfully

S**T!!!

I was going to be stopping in there when I went home on the 10th. It's between the train station and my house. And it is a good place. For the GTA I'd rank it third, just behind LeBaron's and BPS.

Gagnons

Post by Seaweed »

Ok I have removed my comments and no one will know that I found the fire suspicious.....

Ironically although I wasn't the only one thinking it I am sure.... I was the only one who mentioned it... lightheartedly ... and perhaps not in the best of taste... my appologies to all who got offended. I didn't keep any OOS fish though.

Gotta lighten up a bit lads things are getting a tad too serious around here lately.

Seaweed: Any independant that wants to can compete with BPS. We have a much freer hand as to what we inventory, and can be MUCH more in tune with the local needs. Now, I agree, I am insulated by a few hundred miles from BPS, but I am in contact with owners of stores in the GTA, and the ones that promote and work at it are thriving. I feel the level of service that you can expect in an independant is far and above what you would find in a chain as well.

Finally, I take great offense in the suggestion that this would be an arson fire as well. The Gagnon family has been through a great deal, including the murder of one of their sons in an armed holdup of their store at the old location. To suggest that this could have been started on purpose without evidence is shameless.

Well said Ed. Service is the key and keeps shoppers coming back. The products you can get at most places and therefore the Service is the differentiator :).

Cheers,

I agree with Toobinator. That would be a very hurtful comment for the actual people behind the scenes.

My guess is that it was an electrical fire.

Sorry to hear this, I know they put a lot into that business.. but I'm sure it will be back up and running ASAP

Wow look at all the Fire Investigator's here....unless your trained the best thing to say is there was a fire there end of story....even the hint of someone saying it was an arson could cost the family dearly....Some Ins. person reads the post or hears it 2nd hand the family could be tied up for months or years battling the ins company to get their settelment they are entitled too. Stick to fishing and let the Fire Department determine the cause....

It was actually a brother in law of Mr. Gagnon that was shot ans killed, none the less it does not diminish the crime or the family's loss.

Gagnons will be sadly missed for many anglers and hunters in this area. I hope that they can come out of this and get back on their feet soon. The staff were always helpful to me when I have gone there and I'm glad to see nobody was hurt. This friendly group of folks has gone through enough to have this happen. The service at Gagnons has always been awesome. Been going there since I was a kid. Again, I hope to see them up and running again.

Seaweed......there is a button in the top right hand corner of your post where you can edit your post.
