3 days of Nipissing Walleye?

Post by Canadian Bacon »

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday....what a fun 3 days!
My step father Brian "Buckwheat" Miller, his buddy Rick "Danger" Rain and I took the 4 plus hour ride up to Lake Nipissing to spend a couple nights in the famous "Ice Bungalows"
Image

We were 3 guys yet because it being the middle of the week there was room to put us in a 6 man hut. This was luxury at it's best and even in the -47 degree with wind temp we were toasty warm inside!

When we go there, we met up with few guys in our hut...they said it was the hot hut and we will be gettin hit after hit. Well, we did for about 2 hours straight...
Here are a couple of our first ones...
Image
"Lake Nipissing Walleye" we callem :?

Our set up was great...6 holes inside so we put 3 in there each and 3 outside...here is what it looked like inside, That funny lookin Rod holder was created by Danger...he calls it the "Duckfoot"...

Buckwheat just waiting for the bite.
and yes it was very relaxin...

As evening set in we brought the tip ups inside, we cleaned up some "Lake Nipissing Walleye"
Image

and had ourselves a snack

Image

Delicious it was...along with...
some Shrimp...

Image

and a few pops...

Nighttime hit and being as dedicated as I am to fishing...I just didn't stop...had to get some through the night.
Image

The funny thing was is the only thing biting at night were these little buggers

Image
Some calledem Mudpuppies otheres calledem Salamanders...but the damn things would bite and not even set off a bell or tip a flag....anyway not swimmers on any night after 4 or b4 10 am

We did manage on Pike...I look goofy
Image

We were bit off about 6 times...two had some real weight to them. I know one was a Pike that Danger got to the whole and was at least double the size of the one I got. We didn't get the othrs up to the whole...we like to think they were "real Walleye"...who knows..

Wednesday night, Dennis the owner dropped in for about and hour and we talked about some of his fly in spots. They sound incredible and after the way we were treated at his ice Bungalows....a trip up north to his spots are definately in the plans....

Thursday we packed up to leave

Said goodbye and headed home....

I would recommend these www.icebungalows.com to anyone. They were clean, well insulated and very comfortable! The ownership and staff were very accomodating and friendly.

WE caught about 60 "Lake Nipissing Walleye"...one Pike, 6 Mudpuppy(Buckwheat got them all) unfortunately no reall "Walleye".

Another new experience for me....on the ice over night..and I would definately go again!

Nice report Bacon. I love the pic's!

Nipissing holds some big pike and eyes. Where you on Calander Bay?

We shoud make a weekend trip up there next summer. I'd love to show you this little lake - Trout Lake - right beside Nipissing in North Bay.

Those mudpuppies are right here in the Ottawa too! They're just a tad darker in color.

Sounds like you had a great time up in Nipissing.

You did a lot better than we did last year.

May just have to give it a try yet again.

To bad on no walleye...
