Moira oh Moira - James Courneya

Post by Fishhawk »

Hi my name is James Courneya. I just came across your web site and thought I would send this picture. This is a muskie that my five year old son Curtis caught on the Moira River in Tweed Ontario back in July 2002. I fished here for years at my grandmothers house and never caught a muskie. This was my sons first time fishing at this spot and caught this muskie that was about 6-7lbs on a Mickey Mouse bobber, small hook, worm and kids rod and reel. After a quick picture
we released it. That is Curtis's little brother Collin looking on in amazement. (Fish-Hawk’s note – I am looking on in amazement as well. Great stuff.)

back in the days.....

While we are talking about old time stories.....

My dad told me of times when he was working as a construction worker building a hydro dam on the ottawa river. He said when they would blast the bottom rock with dynamite, you would see 10's to 100's of fish come up from the shockwave. He said some were dead most of them stunned. He said you would not believe the variety and size of some of the fish down there. He said he say 6 foot long stergeon, huge bass, pike and everything else under the sun come up. Now that is a way to fish!!. All you need is a little dynamite an voila.... you are guarantied to catch the ones that don't wanna bite. Not much challenge in it though...

Thanks for the story James. I always love to hear stories about the kids outfishing their dads. I can't wait for my 5 year old son to make me proud one day and fish me under the table. The day the student surpasses the teacher.

Hey Bobber I've bin trying that with my (girls) 6-3 the only problem I have is getting them to put the BARBIE'S down to hold the rods. They like it when I catch fish and want to bring them home and put them into our small gold fish tank

I hear ya buddy. If my son Dustin doesn't catch a fish within approximately 5 seconds, he quickly heads for my bag a plastics. Those sqormy, smelly, jelly like things make great toys for little boys.
