With Deer season opening up on Monday I must say that I am pretty darn excited right now. This will be the first time that my father and I will be hunting for deer together and I've got my fingers crossed for a successful hunt.

With so many manufacturers and calibers available I'm curious to hear what you will all be using this year in search for your trophy buck.

I'll be wielding my trusty Enfield .303 that has been sporterized and mounted with a fixed 4x Tasco scope straight out of WWII era 1944.. I've been tempted to get a new rifle but this one has proven quite useful and successful for me so I just can't bring myself to trade her in.

What are you guys hunting with?

I don't hunt deer but those Enfield .303s are fantastic guns! Mine is from 1917, and 3 generations of first moose have been shot with it, a couple bears too. Good luck to all the deer hunters!

I'm taking the third week off and heading to MI to hunt with my family.

Gotta love the .303, I took my first canadian deer with one.

I'll be using a Remington 30-06 this week and this weekend an Excalibur Exomax.

I will be working the first week but the second week I will be out for the first 4 days of the week. We hunt in a shotgun only area so its my 870 with a rifled barrel and a bushel elite on top of her.....good luck to all who are going out. Hope to here about some successful stories in the coming weeks.

I'll be using a 270 savage bolt. Nice gun. This hopefully this i will be holding too. Had I'm on the game cam last week just under my stand. Yes still haven't figured out how to do the time and date. Also have 3 does out there.

I as well will be working the first week but will be up in Cobden-Eganville area for the second week.
I will be holding brand new x-bolt 30-06 mounted with a Bushnell 3200 elite
This is my first season with a rifle the past 3 have been xbow only, so I'm pretty excited to say the least.

We hunt shotgun/muzzleloader only so it will either be my 12ga Mossberg pump with 1.75 x 4 Bushnell Trophy or my Traditions Pursuit .50 Cal with Bushnell 1.5 x 4.5

Back from a BAD week 1.
Spooked a big doe within first 10 mins on the opener.
Tropical weather = bad opportunities.

Case in point. My neighbor owns 800+ acres. There are 12 guys in the camp and they run hounds. Usually by the end of week 1 they have minimum 3 in the bag...(They are all older guys..60's and up).

This year at the end of week 1 they had quit by Friday, wore shorts and drank beer. They had 1 tiny doe to show for all the efforts.

Most butchers have stated fewer deer have come in for processing.

2 years ago my property had scat, tracks etc everywhere. Barely any this year.

Over hunting and the bad winter last year has taken its toll....

Sure we saw tiny deer, but that's future generations....no need to shoot em. Rather do that when the spread is big....not a spiker!

Sorry to hear about your rough go at week 1. It looks like the weather will be back to more seasonable temperatures this week so things might turn around.

I'm not sure where your land is but whenever I'm driving out in the west end around 4:00 pm I see fields full of deer. Good luck taking one down this week.

I saw a few out last night. My camp is in the Lanark/Maberly highlands. After a week of mountain climbing and such I am a little tired.

I am not bothered though. I've shot some good deer in the past and I feel the last winter was hard on them. I too see deer, but not nice big does and very few bucks.

If I am unlucky I still have a few other spots for archery.
