Turkey Broad heads?

hey guys, first year turkey hunting and im looking for some advice on broadheads...Anyone have any recomendations??? Im looking at the Guillotene heads....anyone ever use these??
any help would be appreciated

Pappy,
I am going to use the guillotine variety for my first attempt at a bird with the bow. Not sold on broadheads being as effective

I have not used the guillotine type, I find thunderhead 125's to be so reliable on deer that I stick with them. I think almost any broadhead will work for turkey as they are a light game, thin skinned small boned etc. Dont worry about broadhead selection too much.

No I never purposely spine anything, I always go for a heart/lung shot

hmmm ok good to know, like a said this is my first year at this so im still learning things...took my course a few months back and the guy told us either to spine them or take the head off....i guess hes trying to save as much meat as possible, thanks for the help lunge

I am not a turkey bowhunting expert, I almost always use a shotgun so your instructor probably knows things I dont. I hear those guillotenes open quite wide and can take off a head but I think the odds are against it if you are trying for head shots. They are always moving and often only come within 30 yards and then there is always "tom fever" lol. You could do alot of missing or wounding imo.

ya i still dont know what to go for, ill go to the store and talk to someone about their opinion.....on a good note i was scouting yesterday and was surrounded by gobblers.....27th couldnt come any sooner!

I too was told to go for the neck/head shot during the course... however, every bow hunter I know of that goes for turkey, (4-5) always shoots for the vitals (heart/lungs). The broad-side shot is very unlikely, given the movement you have to make to draw the bow, you'll want to wait, if possible, till they strut away from you, then draw back...

You can shoot them from behind, but i'm not sure of how much dmg is done to the meat when compared to a broad-side shot...

Personally, I've only managed to scare the hell out of turkey with the bow so-far...

but I'll keep trying... My in laws are getting pee pee that I refuse to take a SG out as they really want to try some... lol...

I've also heard reports of arrows bouncing off of the birds.. their feathers make quite a dampening effect on the arrows.... but I've never experienced it myself.

From your other post it sounds like you settled on a broadhead, and it sure did a number on Mister Tom!
