Re: Bylaw on fishing from shore within the city of Ottawa
Sorry. I just got back from a mini-vacation. I find the responses in the email to be very revealling! Thank you for sharing the email with us, SpacemanBiff. The laws and by-laws are never cut-and-dry in and around Ottawa, so it valuable to know which side of the law one is standing on.

Re: Bylaw on fishing from shore within the city of Ottawa
I did do a little more digging. In the National Capital Commission Traffic and Property Regulations, section 35 says 35 (1) No person shall hunt, take or kill any game or fish on property of the Commission except in those parts thereof that have been designated by the Commission for that purpose. (...

Re: Bylaw on fishing from shore within the city of Ottawa
I'm very interested in this, I was just at Dow's lake yesterday, fishing on the boardwalk, and somebody, maybe from the boat rental place came up to me, while I was unhooking a bass, and told me I couldn't fish there. I asked why's that and he said I couldn't fish off the boardwalk and pointed to a...

Bylaw on fishing from shore within the city of Ottawa
I read recently, two first-hand accounts about bylaw warning people that fishing from shore within the city of Ottawa is prohibited. I also read an account from an individual who was harassed by a restaurant manager from the Pavilion while fishing from the boardwalk around Dow's lake. They were told...

Re: 2023 ice conditions Lanark Highlands in around Calabogie
I feel it is only fair to provide everyone interested with an update. We made our way up to the foothills today. Certainly, enough snow fell on Friday. As reported by SirCatfish, the hydro road leading around Norcan is not plowed. There was one truck that ventured too far off track and got stuck. We...

Re: 2023 ice conditions Lanark Highlands in around Calabogie
Well, there is definitely ice in Lanark. I drilled a series of holes last night at the narrows between Clayton and Taylor lakes. I measured a very consistent 9". There was a little white ice at the surface, but I was surprised and impressed with the majority being clear black ice underneath. [...

Re: 2023 ice conditions Lanark Highlands in around Calabogie
Access road is not plowed by hydro, eh? Harder to access so fewer people; a double-edged sword. I suppose I should pack my bike and smitty then. I am also wondering if anyone might know if there is winter access from the far western side of Norcan heading down to Ompah? A number of newer cottages ha...

2023 ice conditions Lanark Highlands in around Calabogie
Any word on the ice conditions up past Calabogie, into the highlands? Lakes like Battery, Gling, Belanger, Blithfield are usually safe by this time but, the season has been unusually warm up to now.

Re: Lake trout fishing near Gatineau
Sorry dude... I think you're SOL ice-fishing for trout in Zone 10 (Gatineau/Outaouais). https://peche.faune.gouv.qc.ca/regpec/e ... Id_Zone=10
You're gonna have to hop across the creek into God's Country if you want trout fish. As a former QC resident (40+ years), I feel your pain.

Re: Ice-fishing for trout in Zone 15 Ottawa Valley
Muskrat is well frozen now and a favourite for lakers and rainbow smelt. But something is "off" this year as we have seen very few fish, i suspect that the major blue-green algae blooms this summer may have hurt the smelt populations (just guessing). The blue-green algae is the reason why...

Re: Ice-fishing for trout in Zone 15 Ottawa Valley
Thank you for your response Smitty55 . The ice hasn't been bad, especially in the bays I have been fishing in, but I have kept myself on the river up to now. Fingers crossed we get some cold days/nights to help move the season along. I'll be sure to look up your suggestions. I don't mind trekking in...

Ice-fishing for trout in Zone 15 Ottawa Valley
Hi all ice-fishing enthusiasts! So glad we can still get out to enjoy the long winter months on the ice! :D My buds and I have been fishing Buckham's Bay on the Ottawa for the past few weeks now. We've had our luck catching walleye, perch and pike but, we are avid trout fishermen and would much rath...
