I stopped by a few locks on the Rideau this past weekend but everything was still frozen. Jock river is clear, but I've never caught panfish in there and the water is moving awfully fast.
I'm feeling pretty anxious also! Let us know if you have any luck.

Re: Kayak Fishing in Lanark
Some great suggestions there ganman, thanks. I'm always on the lookout for places like that on the Rideau... did find a swamp near Kars but not much else so far. I'll keep looking!
Thanks 1650 - will check out pike lake for sure.

Re: Kayak Fishing in Lanark
Thanks for the response Smitty. I left early before seeing it and tried my luck at Crotch Lake. Launched at the north end right at the dam. Got skunked... seems like a really tough lake to fish. Tons of bare bedrock and not a lot of cover. Was easily the most beautiful lake I've ever fished. Amazing...

Re: Kayak Fishing in Lanark
Think I have it narrowed down to either Charleston Lake or Crotch Lake. Any thoughts on those two?

Kayak Fishing in Lanark
I mostly fish the Rideau/Jock but now that I have a weekend to myself I'm looking to venture a bit further from home.
Looking to keep it an hour or so from Barrhaven so Lanark looks ideal. Anyone have any favorite lakes that are readily accessible with kayak?
No species preference.

Re: Good spots near Barry's Bay / Carson lake
Yes, had good luck on the Madawaska. Found a great little spot just downstream of Palomer Rapids. Kids had fun playing on shore and I hauled in some decent bass and a pike.

Re: Good spots near Barry's Bay / Carson lake
Thanks guys. I'll try the madawaska. How aggressive are the rapids? Will I be OK in a large kayak or am I better off shore fishing?
No trolling setup unfortunately.

Good spots near Barry's Bay / Carson lake
We rented a cottage on Carson Lake just south of Algonquin. I had high hopes for big bass and walleye, but I'm not having much luck. Tried vertical jig go down deep this morning for Lake trout but it's hard to find the sweet spots in a kayak without a fish finder. Spoke to one of the locals and he s...

Re: Skunked by crappie again!
Well I went out yesterday near the Long Island marina in Kars and got one, just big enough to sneak a few small fillets off. After I found him I kept at it in the same location but didn't get anymore bites. Switched jig colors... still nothing... so I moved on. The area I got him had a lot of gunk a...

Skunked by crappie again!
This is my first year fishing for Crappie and I'm having a hell of a time landing one. Early spring I tried shore fishing around the Long Island locks, Black Rapids, and along the west side of the Rideau between Manotick and Barrhaven. I recently got a kayak and took it out to Kars last Friday and e...

Re: Kick starting the Crappie bite
Beauty! I've been trying for the past few weeks on the rideau with jigs and artificial grubs but haven't had any luck except the odd perch.
Did you get him in the city?

Re: Early spring shore fishing - Jock River / Ottawa South
Ok thanks everyone - guess I'm just a little anxious to get out and start pulling in some fish.
Has anyone had luck with crappie in the Jock or do they mostly stick in the Rideau? I've never caught one.

Friend of mine had some luck pulling walleye out of White Lake a few years ago, but not sure how the picking is lately.

Early spring shore fishing - Jock River / Ottawa South
Anyone have luck on the Jock River early spring? I was thinking some pike might be lurking around... I was walking around a few of my favourite spots in Barrhaven but the water was murkey and really moving quick. Was trying to hit some of the slow spots but didn't have any luck. Am I too early to be...
