Re: Pistol Grip casting rod, anyone use one?

Prior to the mid-late 80's all casting rods were pistol grips in 5'6" and 6'0" lengths with a stiff action in one piece. Later telescoping 7'6" Flippin rods came out followed by what they called Pitchin rods mainly 6'6" but also in 6' and 7' lengths. Spincast rods were similar bu...

Re: Trout rivers near Arnprior?

Forget Algonquin. The rivers are outflows of lake surface water. They are warm and do not have gradient to sustain trout. There are a few exceptions with spring fed sections of some rivers such as the Crow, Nipissing and Tim. But those are excursions that are deep in the Park and you need at least a...

Re: Lower Beverley Lake not on my Navionics+ chip

I fished the lake for many years and I've owned depth finders as long but there are many times I went out on this lake and never turned it on. When I did it was to fish a deep weedline in August which wasn't anywhere near as productive as vertically jigging - or as we called it "dunking" s...

Re: Lower Beverley Lake not on my Navionics+ chip

Yes there are a couple versions of paper maps. Not many navigational issues and what there is usually well marked. It's a simple lake to fish you you'd do well with just your eyes. Most of the rocky shorelines, points and shoals are ringed with coontail down to 10'-12'. It may not always be that vis...

Gee, looks like you'll just have to fish the old fashioned way with only your fish finder

Re: Went trout fishing near Plevna

Brook trout are very easy to catch when: There are fish in the lake! Seriously the trout fishing in this part of Ontario is awful. It's neglected by the MNR and what there is gets exploited by a very few (hunting camp on a stocked pond). I no longer waste time driving up to the Madawaska Highl...

Re: Perch or Crappie on Gannanoque Waterway

Plenty of crappie in Gananoque Lake less so in Charleston and Redhorse. Good crappie fishing below Marble Rock dam. Best perch fishing and crappie is South lake but some big ones in all lakes.

Re: charlston lake walleye

I grew up in Gananoque and have researched the history of Charleston Lake and the Gananoque River watershed for many years...no walleye, possible stocking but that would have been well over 50 years ago. Out of the couple dozen lakes on the whole Gananoque system only 2 have walleye (Green and Higle...

Re: 2013 Kemptville stocking report

"Be careful what you wish for." I was posted to Kingston when the province closed winter lake trout fisheries on Loughborough, Desert, Buck, Devil, and I forget how many other "back lakes" as a "temporary measure." I believe that was 1981, could have been 1980 or 1982 ...

Re: 2013 Kemptville stocking report

If you are talking about fishing remote brook trout ponds and want quality fishing its simple.....NO ICE FISHING, NO ATV's, NO LIVE BAIT, reduced limits, single hook lures. Brook trout are one of the most gullible fish swimming. A typical 30 acre pond only has so many fish in it. A couple parties of...

Re: Where to access upper/lower beverly lake?

Don't try to get on at Delta. It's a pain. Go to Lyndhurst and up Short Point Rd. follow to Kendricks Beach. You can walk on at the beach or the access lane between the cottages..
