Re: May Fishing for Lake Trout
For ice out, Loughborough Lake. Gets stocked with a ton lakers but it can support them. Big, fertile body of water with a lot of smelt. Not much for scenery and solitude like north of 7 but way more trout. Finding a place to stay that early might be a problem anywhere. Most cottage resorts and campg...

Re: Trout in Ottawa
Is Poole Creek connected to the Ottawa? If so that fish was probably one of those stocked and came in from the main river to spawn. However not knowing how big Poole Creek is and its food sources it is amazing where a big brown can live. I once caught a 5lber from a ditch that flowed thru a cow past...

Re: Algonquin fishing
After reading this I think you'd be better off staying home! You can't fish a trout pond from shore and bugs in Algonquin or The Highlands at that time of year will carry you away. There are lakes and rivers with bass in them but they are closed. You should always check the regs. A few have pike but...

Re: Silver lake and little round lake
Little Round Lake has not been stocked with Brook trout since 2012 and they were yearlings then. Brookies have a life span of 3-4 years so its pretty certain there are none left from that last planting. Its not likely they spawn in there either. It was taken off the stocking program because of publi...

Re: after years of trecking through the bush....
I do most of my trout fishing in the Adirondacks but I am going to spend more time at home next season. But the thing I can't get used to here in Ontario is the garbage and destruction of beautiful places. These ponds are dumps! Old boats, fire pits, shot gun shells, tires, mattresses, chairs, beer ...

Re: Clyde River
Ya I hear of lots of spots in the states not far from me. We just moved her 5 years ago for my wife's work and we went over about 5 times and it was hell lol. Neither one of us has ever had any issues with the law before, and going across was like we were wanted or something. Maybe cud were young a...

Re: Clyde River
If you live in Cornwall get your passport. The fly fishing and camping opportunities in the Adirondacks whether it is bass, trout in streams or lakes exceeds anything in Eastern Ontario and it is inexpensive. Have a look at Fish Creek and Rollins Pond camping areas and nearby St. Regis Canoe Area. A...

Re: Pike Lake fish report
The lake has a ton of big smallmouth. A lot bigger than 2 lbs.. Not great largemouth. Used to be a real good walleye lake prior to the 80's. I remember days catching 20+ walleye. Before the construction of the dam on the creek it had lakers.

Re: Anyone fished Rockingham Creek, near Combermere, Ontario
I would say that that most creeks in that Combermere, Maynooth and Bancroft area have Brook trout. The issue is how much has been degraded, how much is on private land and are they fly fishable? It takes youth, patience and perseverance to fish small creeks. I'm passed the point of bushwacking thru ...

Re: Looking for feedback (Small boat and trolling motor?'s)
Hahaha we must be real morons flipping it x2. The one we had I was in it by myself and moved over to one side and over it went. Went quick. Same thing with the other guy and that guy used to race super tippy C1 canoes when he was younger. He cursed the thing. I had a Coleman Crawdad years ago. I rea...

Re: Looking for feedback (Small boat and trolling motor?'s)
Yep don't buy that boat. I bought one for trout ponds. We flipped it. I thought it was me but a friend flipped it too. It looks stable but once in it on the water you quickly realize it's not. Where a canoe might be tippy its at least predictable. That thing was really unpredictable. Once you go pas...

Re: Splake through the ice..
Dog is an iffy fishery for splake. They grow big and it may be because of low competition because I think a lot of the thousands of stocked splake fingerlings are lost to predators and the environment. It's hard to catch well fed trout. If you have ever seen Dog in summer with the green algae slicks...

Re: Splake through the ice..
Possibly but lakers need slightly colder water and the depths of Dog may not have enough oxygen. It is not a big difference but enough. It gets quite an algae bloom in summer. Also lakers grow slower and in a put, grow, take fishery and the thought is why stock lakers which will take twice as long t...

Re: Splake through the ice..
Thirty pounders were caught in Dog at one time. If you knew the Lake Trout fishing we've lost... you'd cry.
