"Theft was rampant"

Is this a real problem in Ottawa? Seems every time I go to LeBarons or Sail I feel someone is lurking around watching. It gets damn annoying. Never have this problem in the states or Toronto stores.

Re: whitefish lake

Are you asking about Whitefish Lake on the Rideau near Seeleys Bay?

Re: Palmerston Lake Fishing?

Pretty sure it's just bass and lake trout. Bass fishing might be okay but lake trout would be super slow. Unless you have some motivating factor to fish it I would not waste my time.

Re: Kayak Fishing in Lanark

If I had a kayak the last places I'd fish would be larger lakes with boat ramps, cottages etc.. Why compete with many other anglers with boats that are better equipped and fish that see lots of lures. On Pike or Charleston you might be able to reach only a few spots and not the best spots. I'd targe...

Re: St Lawrence Cornwall Area

I have said it here before and don't mean to sound like a broken record but if you want to fly fish rivers especially if you live in the Cornwall area get yourself NY license. There are 3 rivers that flow into the St Lawrence at Massena, anywhere upstream there is great smallmouth fishing plus Muski...

Re: late hex

Do you think I can count on this hatch happening again this year, same place, same time? I hoping I can have another crack at them. I'd also like to determine if they are Mahogony duns or big slate drakes. In this case they are the same mayfly. Both of those are localized names. Better off referenc...

Re: Summer back lake Trouting?

I fish a back lake for Splake and I use a 7 weight fly rod with 15 lbs. leadcore. I only need about 5 or 6 colours to get down to 30-40 ft. where they are holding. But I troll real slow and actually pop the motor in and out of gear. You don't need a stiff rod with leadcore as it has no stretch. I ru...

Re: Summer back lake Trouting?

Lake trout yes but I'd leave the brookies alone until cooler weather. But its your call. Most brookie ponds are too shallow or small to develop a thermocline so the brookies find areas with springs, shade etc. and tough it out. They'll likely be bunched up. Catching them now is really stressful and ...

Re: Good spots near Barry's Bay / Carson lake

Bark Lake is a big lake and being in a kayak would limit your choices. I'd check out the Madawaska River. The rapids should be full of smallmouth and at night or overcast days there'd be walleyes.

Can you still get the infamous "Golden Lake Itch"? Might want to check before you go swimming in the lake.

Re: All purpose battery?

Thanks,

I have a bad shoulder hence the electric. With the weight of the 4 stroke, me and two batteries it would be a lot of weight.

All purpose battery?

I have always had a cranking battery and deep cycle(s) on my big boats but I'm picking up a John boat for small waters. Here's the thing. I want electric start and trolling motor but I don't want to go with 2 batteries because of weight and space. Is it possible? The OB will be a 15HP and the electr...

Re: Lake Champlain Impressions...CnR Bass Fishing.

NY State does not stock bass. There is absolutely no reason to stock bass. You were likely catching males either making nests or guarding nests. A 2-3 lbs. male bass is comparably speaking LARGE.

Re: Lake Champlain Impressions...CnR Bass Fishing.

It's funny that the fish we have the most of get the most protection. We have so many bass they are impacting other species. I know a retired but highly regarded fisheries professional that maintains we could have a commercial fishery for bass with little consequence. These are his words and not min...

Re: Lake Champlain Impressions...CnR Bass Fishing.

I don't think the size has to do with a longer growing season. The centre of Champlain is roughly the same latitude as Brockville. Although the north end is shallow the middle is cold and deep. I think the size may have to do with the forage base. Lake Champlain has a huge smelt population and now h...
