Rhombeus is a long time Port Hope Guide, he has a fairly sizable boat. The best boat fishing off port hope is in late June and July. After that things get more unpredictable, You are right, by Mid september the salmon run is in full swing, and the boatfishing is mostly over...although it can still b...

After the season opens, the Ganaraska is open to the public from the mouth at lake Ontario to about a kilometer above highway 401. There is a small area closed to fishing just above, and a few hundred meters below, the Corbett dam. There is also another mile or so that you can fish upstream of the S...

In response to this: http://www.thestar.com/News/Ontario/article/285643 Westport has done this: http://newsfeed.recorder.ca/cgi-bin/LiveIQue.acgi$rec=24746 I thought this might happen. I know some areas have dealt with the problem in the past by banning fishing from public piers, bridges, etc. at an...

What people will do for their dogs.. I've never had one, so I've never been there. Years ago I was ice fishing with a friend and his dog just above the bridge at billings bridge on the Rideau, and his dog runs off to chase some ducks, and falls into open water. It can't get out. So my buddy, who wei...

Well, the insurance isn't going to cover this, and there will be costs of a few thousand to pay for the removal of the vehicle (no you can't leave it there).

Expensive lesson indeed. 25-30K hole in his pocket. I bet he's grounded for a few days anyway.

No gas for my truck!

Interesting read in today's Ottawa Citizen (city section) on the grounding of our CO's in the MNR because of budget cutbacks.

On a positive note, this mild weather has extended my steelhead fishing. I'm headed down to Lake Ontario for a couple days (in the rain) before Christmas, and hopefully, with no cold weather in sight, will be doing it between Christmas and New Years for the first time ever. I haven't even thought ab...

The statement that spring scales are less accurate than digital scales is simply not true - unless you are talking about the cheapie models typically available at the bait and tackle. Try a chatillon scale, if you can afford one... the 6 lb model weights in one oz increments, and actually weighs to ...

Hello smitty First, the navionics chip is not useful of you fish outside of "navigable" waterways. The Ottawa R is generally covered, as is the Rideau system, St Lawrance, Great Lakes, Trent system ect. ect. It is useless for inland lakes like White lake, Missisihippi Lake, 31 mile, etc. S...
