Shore Fishing Mooney's Bay?

Anyone ever caught anything from shore? I'm talking about the stretch along Riverside drive near Walkley towards the beach, then along the shoreline and lock around Hog's Back Falls....I have never had so much as a nibble anywhere here, except for once last year when I hooked a small walleye on a sp...

Bluegill Parasite?

I took the kids panfishing in Manotick the other day, and I noticed this bluegill swimming around in the shallows with what looked like a weird growth extending from the front of his face...it was white, and looked sort of like an elephant tusk, and was almost equal to the length of the fish's body....

Re: No fish?

It's been kind of slow for me too...I've fished the Rideau and the Jock Rivers near Ottawa so far this season...my last three outings produced 1 fish apiece...a nice crappie, and 2 (unintentionally hooked) young LM bass (yes, I know the season is not open; I wasn't targetting them, they just nailed ...

Re: Rudeness at Kars

I hear you Zippy...I honestly couldn't care less if people park on the road in front of the dock or not...as you said, as long as they don't block fishing or boating, there isn't a problem. I didn't get close enough to see who these people were. I just turned back around disgusted, and proceeded to ...

Rudeness at Kars

So if you've been to Kars, you know that big cement dock out there? It's one of my favorite places. Anyway, I head out there this morning...I didn't expect it to be deserted, being a holiday and all, so I knew some people would be out there. But on arrival, I was not happy with what I saw...two grou...

Re: Ver Ist Das Krappy!?

Yesterday, I finally wet my line for the first time this year at the dock in Kars...I fished for about an hour, with not so much as a nibble...before I left, I made a halfhearted cast, and I nabbed a small crappie (maybe 4 inches) with a small curly tail white grub. That was it...no other bites. I t...

Re: Conditions at Kars?

Dang. I was hoping to get out there for some spring bluegills...I was nailing them at Kars last year. Well, my alternative is Black Rapids, but I'm not too hopeful...it seems the reputation of the spot has gone downhill the last few years.

Re: Conditions at Kars?

Yeah, I passed by it last Saturday, still icey then...but with the rain and warm temps this past week and coming weekend, I've got my hopes up. I'm planning to check it out again this Monday, and if there's still too much ice to get to the panfish, I'll probably try around the Chapman Mill Conservat...

Conditions at Kars?

Anyone know what the conditions at Kars are like now...ice/no ice, etc... I drove past Mooney's Bay this morning, and last night's rain seems to have cleared almost all the ice...mostly open water, so I'm hopeful about Kars.

Too early?

So like many of you, I'm waiting for ice-out on the local rivers so I can get back out there. I've noticed a couple of spots of fast-moving water where the ice is already gone...around Manotick, also the mouth of the Jock River where it enters the Rideau, etc... Are spots like this worth fishing in ...

Re: Manotick Mill

Thanks for the tips, everyone. Last summer, I spent a little time fishing at the top of the dam with no luck. I did locate a path to the left of the war memorial (close to the other bridge), and took it down to the water. I was fishing around the pilings of the bridge, but I kept getting snagged on ...

Re: Soft water is coming...

Tell me about it! This is my 3rd winter here, and I'm still in shock. I can't believe we're still getting freezing temps and snowstorms this late in the year. But when summer comes, I get my laughs in...my Canadian friends always poke fun of me because I suffer in the winter, but then they start com...

Re: Soft water is coming...

Well, drunk boaters are a downside after the ice melts... But...I'm a transplanted Texan, living in Ottawa for the last 3 years. I'm not winter fishing material. I dream of the day when spring really arrives and the ice is gone so I can get out there on the water again. I'll put up with the drunk bo...

Manotick Mill

Hi Guys...I've been spying on the forum since I took up fishing for the first time last summer. Forgive the newbie question here... I live close to Manotick, and I see lots of posts about people fishing from the mill there. I've been to the mill, but where exactly are people throwing their lines to ...
