Re: Quick Question
I believe you can fish anywhere on the Ottawa River from boat with a Quebec license or an Ontario Sportfishing license (subject to specific closures of course). If you have the Ontario Conservation license, you can only fish the Ontario side of the river, as Quebec doesn't recognize that class of li...

Re: Muskie Fisherman Wanted
Sorry folks, it was just an honest question! I've purchased the conservation license since moving here from BC as I'm almost 100% C&R. In fact, I haven't kept a fish since moving here 3 years ago. Anything I would keep would be covered off by the limits associated with the conservation license. ...

Re: Muskie Fisherman Wanted
I thought he was suggesting that by having the Conservation License they couldn't target them (I was assuming they were going C&R . . . maybe that's a poor assumption). If they planned on keeping a fish, then I totally get where he's coming from.

Re: Muskie Fisherman Wanted
So far my biggest difficulty is finding other people to go out fishing for muskie as most of my friends/fishing partners are not set up for Muskie (some only have conservation licences  ) Pardon my ignorance, but is there an issue with targeting Muskies while only having a Conservation Licen...

Re: MInn Kota Power V2 I Pilot
Yeah, running at 10 will drain your power really quickly! I have a 24V PowerDrive V2 and I get similar run times to what lape0019 reports. That said, I usually only use mine to move from spot to spot, use the anchor feature, make some casts, move to the next spot, etc. I don't typically use it for c...

Re: Thoughts on Legend XCaliber18
howie, does that model come pre-wired for a 24V trolling motor (you'll definitely want at least a 24V motor for a boat that size)? I looked on the Legend website and couldn't tell. I think you'll find that most of the other brands mentioned in this thread would come with that feature. Another thing ...

Re: Pan fish
Not sure where your cottage is, but my experience with Panfish since moving to Ontario (at least for Bluegill and Pumpkinseed), is find most any sort of weed line or structure close to a weed line, drop something down into the water and catch them until you are sick of fishing for them, LOL. I was c...

Re: Thoughts on Legend XCaliber18
I can't comment on the quality of Legend, as I've never owned one. What I would really suggest you do, is compare other 17-18 models from other brands. I'd look at Crestliner, Princecraft, Lund and Alumacraft to start. Boats are such a personal thing, you almost have to look at them, get inside them...

Re: Redhorse
We didn't have Redhorse back in BC, but we did have other types of sucker. The only time I ever caught them was with weighted nymph patterns being bounced along the bottom while fly fishing for trout. There were an incidental catch, but you always knew when you hooked one because they would have the...

Re: For Fun: Whats your favorite snack on the boat?
Maybe some pepperoni, jerky, cheese or chips. Oh and water and Diet Pepsi. Honestly though, eating is usually an afterthought until I'm done fishing. It just gets in the way, LOL.

Re: Coming up: First boat launch!
Oh, one other thing I forgot. Your new engine would have come with an owner's manual. Read through it and look at the engine break in procedures. Make sure to follow them!

Re: Coming up: First boat launch!
Some tips in no random order: - Make sure the drain plug is in - Make sure the engine is tilted up - Make sure you have everything in the boat BEFORE you head down to the launch (don't spend time at the water getting ready) - If you haven't done so already or you don't know how to, practise backing ...
