Boat Launches on Mississippi Lake . . .

Hi folks,

Just wondering if you could point me to some boat launch options for Mississippi Lake? I've never been on the lake before but was thinking of heading out there on Sunday to try for some Bass and Pike. I have a 16 foot aluminum that launches pretty easy if that helps.

Much appreciated!

Re: 70 mph in a Gambler Bass boat....

Mine sits roughly even with the bottom of the hull and while running, It's probably 2-3 inches beneath the surface. That's in the 2nd of 4 holes. I could raise it as high as it would go and I still think it would be below the surface. That said, it's only a 70HP tiller on a 16 footer so it's not a p...

Re: Best approach to get pike on a fly?

I suspect that you could get away with a floating line and heavier flies if the fish are in shallow. The weight of the fly and/or you leader should be enough to get it down enough, especially if you let it sink a bit before you start your retrieve. That said, I'm only guessing and I do intend on tes...

Re: 70 mph in a Gambler Bass boat....

The best performance is often only achieved IF the anti cavitation plate is out of the water. If it's submerged, it's causing lots of drag and robbing performance. That said, you probably also need a good stainless prop to run the engine that high so that it still has enough grip and doesn't blow ou...

Honey Harbour on Georgian Bay . . .

Hi everyone, Going to be headed up to the Honey Harbour area and was wondering if any of you have fished up that way? I'm hoping to get into some Pike, Bass and Musky (and maybe some Lakers or Trout if the weather cooperates) and was hoping that you could send some ideas for targeting these fish my ...

Re: Lake Trout: Jig or Troll?

It's an interesting question! Back in BC, jigging for Lake Trout is EXTREMELY rare, to the point that I don't think I ever saw anyone doing it. We did fly fish for them in the Spring on occasion, but I'd hazard a guess that well over 90% of the fish were taken trolling. That said, I can definitely s...

Re: Prop Advice - Aluminum/Stainless Princecraft 166, 90 Mer

The only thing I'll add is to double check your RPM's next time you are out. You want to be able to hit the upper RPM limit for your engine with your normal load. If it's 6,000 RPM, then you should be running 5,800 to 6,000 or thereabouts. This may not give you the most speed (you may need a lower p...

What prop do you have on there right now and what are your maximum RPM's?

Re: Over powered boat

I think you are answering your own questions Shawn. I've seen the thread you put together rebuilding your boat (that was cool by the way) and to make it borderline unsafe is no offense, stupid. Fix the 150 somehow and get that 225 back to the "mechanic" that thought it would be a good ide...

Re: Re-connecting with an Ol' fishin' buddy...

Awesome, thanks for the info guys! I've been dying to get my downriggers out and my trout/salmon fix in so I think I'll have to make a trip down that way. No way I'd venture out there in a 12 footer. I used to see guys out in the middle of the big lakes in BC with their 12 footers and 9.9's and I wo...

Re: Re-connecting with an Ol' fishin' buddy...

Is that out of the Bay of Quinte RJ? How far offshore do you have to run to get into the Salmon and Trout? Are they within reach in a big 16 footer on reasonable days?

Re: Cranberry Lake/Dog Lake

Okay cool, thanks guys. I'll bring my downriggers along just in case I feel up to searching for some Splake. I've caught lots of Lakers and lots of Brookies, but we didn't have Splake back in BC so that would be sort of cool. RJ, if you feel generous and would like to point me in a rough direction o...
