Weekend trip (PICS!)

So my son had a hockey tournament this weekend a bit of a drive from Ottawa, but back to my old stomping grounds :D I was told we were going to Cobourg Ont for a hockey game. I used to live in the surrounding area's, and broke out the long rods! We arrived early on Friday, and went to Port Hope On. ...

Re: Salmon from Shore

Thanks RJ. And Rob, if you were interested in making a longer drive, say a 3-4 hr down the 401, mind you if your in the west end you can shave 30-45 mins off that time frame. If you wanted help on trying the bows (A million times more fun and challenging than the salmon) feel free to drop me a pm, a...

Re: Salmon from Shore

There has been talk over the years of a small run in the Cornwall area. I've never bothered, for I don't fish the salmon run anymore, I wait for cooler temps and chase the bows. I have seen a few fish in years past in Lyn Cr in Brockville, but never bothered. as per a 90 minute drive, your closest p...

Re: Spinning vs casting

I am 60/40 with 27 rods in the garage "At this point" 16 are bait casters, and the rest spinning. Not to mention the 3 float rods with center pins. My wife is more comfortable with a spinning outfit, but then again, she only throws either jerk baits, or senko's 90% of the time in the summe...

Re: Spinning vs casting

Hands down, go see Ed! He is always willing to show you a quick lesson, and, put you on to the right rod and reel for not only your budget, but what kind of fish/baits you want to target, or throw. As Ed said, they both have their place, but, once you get past the curve on a bait caster, you will wo...

Re: Steelhead

The problem with Port Hope, is the limited water access this time of yr. There are other creeks within a half hour drive of Port Hope, East, and West, that have more water to fish. Look at the regs, and right now, they should be in. If not closer to the mouths, or staging. I have lived, fished that ...

Re: Fishing Petrie on the North east side of bridge?

To your post: To the left of the bridge is Crappie bay, on the right hand side before you take the bend to the left, is Walleye Bay. There is good depth on both, but Crappie Bay has more weed growth and pan fish and pike, as Walleye Bay is more of a sandy bottom, and the depths could be 5 foot diffe...

Re: Looking to trade soft water fishing for ice fishing.

Just to add on this post. I live in Orleans, close to Petrie. I do not ice fish as much as I used to. Though, if anyone gets you out, and find a spot you like (Petrie) or otherwise, I have a brand new hand auger, used only 2 times you are more than welcome to borrow, if you plan to fish in the east ...

Re: HT 2017 Ice Tour - Sail Ottawa, Saturday February 11th

I'm not trying to throw stones in a glass house here. In regards to the "Door Prizes" I really don't know why anyone would expect anything? This seminar is "Free" put on by 3 legendary fishermen, and info provided, you could not purchase for any price! If that is not "A Door...

Best ice fishing flasher/finder for the buck?

I've got a good buddy doing some research for me tonight, but with a coming trip this weekend, I'm after some insight? I barely fish frozen water, and was hoping for some feed back on what unit to buy? If I could find used, I would, but seems it's hard to find anything used. I'm not out to spend 700...
