Re: Ottawa River Ice
Petrie is still a mess. There were a couple permanent shacks going on baitshop bay but you can't drive out due to the shoreline. The road is still closed before the bridge and walleye bay and crappie bay are inaccessible. Andrew, Dan, once the ice is safe I will let you guys know, it would be great ...

Re: Ottawa River Ice
The road to Petrie is still closed, for about 75' by Walleye Bay the road is completely covered with 3 - 4" of water under 2" of ice (as of yesterday Thursday). I am not sure how safe the ice is on the Bay but it is a long walk from where the road is closed. Hopefully with the water going ...

Re: Ottawa River Ice
Thanks for the words of caution, I was thinking the same thing. I was on walleye bay at Petrie Island on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning and there was 5" of clear ice. I drove by Monday morning and it was almost wide open. It froze over again last night but I don't think it will be safe f...

Re: I loved being proven wrong...BIG SLAB.
Nice slab, I have caught a few 13" through the ice and thought they were nice. My partner caught one on a flipping jig in Bay Noire a few years ago that was big but I had no tape measure in the boat. Good luck on your 16"!

I was there on Saturday. Ice is thick but standard auger is fine. Good luck!

Re: ICE FISHING PETRIE ISLAND
There are lots of good fishing opportunities at Petrie. If you want to target walleye you can go to walleye bay and it is a very short walk from the road to deep water and you can catch walleye there all day (just look where the huts are set up). Most are small but big ones come from there too! You ...

Re: Looking for Sonar Recommandations
I totally agree with RJ. You are fishing blind without a flasher and I wouldn't go ice fishing without one. It is particularly effective when fish are suspended. Without a flasher you are just guessing at the depth to fish. With a flasher you can see your jig and the fish, and how the fish reacts to...

Re: flouro to braid knots
I always used the uni to uni knot but after some failures in tournaments I started to use the Foran knot. Easy to tie and I have never had an issue. Here is a link that shows how to tie it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3GUbY5CNs4 There is another video I have seen where he tests the knot at a fi...

Re: Fishing in Punta Cana
I am heading to Punta Cana at the end of February with some friends and the guys have talked about taking a Charter to do some fishing. There is lots of information on the web, here is one that seems to get good reviews on trip advisor: http://www.tripadvisor.ca/Attraction_Review-g147293-d1118038-Re...

Re: 8 inch gas auger or 10 inch gas auger???
I have had a few gas augers over the years. Started with a 9" Jiffy which was great, I liked the bigger holes but I think the thing weighed 38lbs! I walk around on the ice a lot and carrying that around was a killer. I bought the Strikemaster Strikelite which was 19lbs, a huge difference when p...

Re: Vexillar FL18 vs FL20
I sold my FL-18 a few years ago and bought the FL-20. The thing I like most about the FL-20 is the flat screen display, I find it is a lot clearer. The FL-20 has a few features the FL-18 doesn't, you can find those online. Both units will do what you want though so it really comes down to how much y...
