Re: Eatin' Rock Bass - and a (true) tall tale !!

They are good to eat, they seem to have a little bigger ribcage so you dont get as much meat off of them as you do the equivalent sized crappie but its still worth the effort. Probably get the same amount of meat as you would a bluegill or pumpkinseed and they taste just as good.

Re: Crotch Lake Perch Help

I was there a couple years ago in the fall, the water levels between summer and fall are dramatically different, I beleive the water was down 9 ft from summer time high when we were there in early fall. I had always heard there was a big draw down but couldnt believe how dramatic it was. So with the...

Spring Walleye- Rice Lake trip report

Me and my cousin Bob headed out on our annual spring walleye trip this weekend, we have seemed to be jinxed in the past with strong winds keeping us cabin bound for a large percentage of the weekend but not this time. A bit of wind and a lot of rain on the Friday but nothing that kept us off the wat...

Re: Solo boat launching?

Now when I launch solo I use retractable dog leashes to tie the boat up to the dock. I thread the clip end through the dock cleats, clip it onto the boat cleat, drop the boat in and watch it retract to the dock. Don't have to worry about ropes as the leashes retract. Just drop it into storage. This...

Re: Someday in Ontario

I think the bass in Z18 could handle a C&R season, it is a pretty health population and may actually help the walleye pop recover. For me though I dont really care, I can wait until June for bass, I am a multi species guy. I am obsessed with crappie/bluegill/perch right now, then in a couple wee...

Re: Catch & Release may be too good...

Catch and release is the act of releasing the fish you catch. They are talking more about the harvesting of fish in the slot. Leading to over population of smaller fish. Slot size leaves fish of a good breading size and smaller fish. Large fish eat small fish. And small fish grow to be big fish. Do...

Re: Does lure color count.

I am not concerned with colour. Depth, size, speed, action, then colour. I will change between a natural colour ( green pumpkin, black, white) and an unnatural (chartreuse, pink) there are certain light and water conditions where I believe that helps, but greenpumkin with red fleck vs greenpumpkin with p...

Re: Boat Financing

It really depends. Like buying a new car, whether you have a down payment or not, and how much, is a big factor on the monthly payment. Assume your boat is around $20,000. Finance all that at a bank loan / line of credit rate: take 7% as an example. Add 13% HST. No money down, that works out to abo...

Re: Immediate Release

Basically comes down to this, letter of the law its illegal to take a picture of an oos fish, might not say it in regs directly but if you have experience reading regulation its clear. Now why they dont add one sentence saying this includes taking a picture is pretty stupid, but its not the first or...

Important message and the high level points are somewhat accurate but much more detailed, researched info out there. Just google it. This article reads like a grade 9 science project, and this is a grad student, yikes.

Re: 8 inch gas auger or 10 inch gas auger???

I use a 8 and have not had problems getting fish in, perfect size hole imo but I know there are some people who swear by 10s. As long as you dont spud out a 12-14in hole like some idiots do its all good in my books.

Re: Provincial Bait Policy Review

interesting, personally I dont use leeches but I will occasionally use minnows in the winter, I was just out trapping some today. I wouldnt have a problem if they implemented a province wide baitfish ban if it would help the fishery. (thats a big if though because Iam not sure moving baitfish lake t...

Re: trout stocking

Sorry, Lake Ontario giant Lakers in there. Also when comparing Ont to NY State in stocking or enforcement you are comparing apples to oranges. Or more accurately watermelon to grapes. Ont number of lakes ~ 250,000 NY state number of lakes 7500 Area in km2 Ont 1,000,000 NY state 145,000 Population On...
