I have a 55lb Minn Kota on a "big" 14ft boat, its a tonne of power most times, but as mentioned in winds, current, or vegetation, it comes in handy, two guys and gear I'm only 700lbs loaded

I knew a little about the dead one affect, but the scenarios you guys are presenting I think is the key factor. If you can select narrow, wide (or both?) make sure you are using the best choice depending on the application (Sheldon's structure example, vs. the open search) depth is obviously key too...

If i wind up getting one I will for sure, I was just poking around the lowrance site for some info on my IFinder H2O and noticed the new units

Looks like they are replacing the 5" Eagle units, I don't see the FishMark 320/480 family of finders anywhere anymore . . .

I'll add a second vote for the Xcalibur rotating trebles. Changed out the hooks on all my Little Cleos (great spoon, not so great hooks)

When the lakers and splake start rolling around these seem to hold real well.

My 2 cents

Transducer Frequency/Cone Angle Question

Looking for a little insight, any help appreciated. I'm considering either the new Lowrance Mark 5 or Mark 5 Pro for an inexpensive bow finder for my aluminum boat. Other than power (this I understand fairly well) the main difference for the extra $$$ is the transducer frequencies and cone angles. O...

The Cleo's are heavy and jig vertically well too, along with white tubes and white twisters

My 7' Ugly Stik spinning rod had the tip insert come out on me this summer, I didn't think much of it though as its a 10 year old rod . . . it happened a few times (kept forgetting to glue it in place) but I run one spool of mono and one of fireline, happened with both on the reel . . . In my case i...

while not a true crank, you mentioned the X-Rap, this is one bait I find you can fish clear of bottom, as you can make it do all kinds of things fish like in open water . . . shallow water, little to no weeds, or over the weed tops (active fish are key though) vary twitches and pauses, one of my fav...

My daughter and I were out on Mississippi today (she turns 3 this fall as well) her Uncle got her a 3' kids rod (sinking model, so I have it tied to the boat) I just used a tiny tube jig head a few feet below a pencil-style, spring clip bobber as mentioned previously (I like the circle hook idea tho...

Another good resource I found (not being from the area myself and I too enjoy being away from the crowd) is the MNR crown land atlas . . . I wouldn't assume it's 100% accurate, but combined with a Backroads Mapbook it will help you find some areas that aren't privately owned and free for exploring ....
