I grew up in Richmond, Ontario. The Jock River runs through it. I spent countless hours as a young kid on the banks of this river. My dad loves the outdoors but was into fishing much. I loved it and was mostly self taught. I caught sunfish, perch, rockbass, catfish, walleye, large and small mouth ba...

Wow, great post. Some very passionate arguments from all sides (more than 2 here)!!! I am a recreational angler. I’m usually fishing from the dock or my 12’ tinny with my kids. I too shared some of the concerns about bass tournaments that I’ve read here. However, this thread has been very educ...

http://www.jedduff.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/drooling-homer_full1.jpg BM Exactly BM! Out4trout, crappie are tough to target in the summer. They scatter all over the lake and don't school up. They are hard to find in any great numbers. This is why most people only target crappie in the spring a...

I fish the Kawartha Lakes and they are an introduced species here and they are doing very well. The numbers have exploded in the last 5 years or so. So much so the MNR have changed the regs to allow ice fishing for panfish to help thin them out. A lot of people are blaming them for the decline of th...

Not sure how they got their name (Google let me down!!). What I did find out that Crappie comes from the french word Crapet. However Cappie in french is Marigane noire. Pumkinseed sunfish are Crapet-soleil. http://www.mrn.gouv.qc.ca/faune/peche/poissons/marigane-noire.jsp http://www.mrn.gouv.qc.ca/f...

I hit three stores here south of Toronto. Picked up a couple of rods, some tip ups, a few scoops (I'm fishing with young kids so they always seem to end up on the bottom of the lake!), and a hand full of tackle. Couldn't find any good augers, all they had was 6" manual. I'm all set for next yea...
