Ok, enough about scouts, back to fishing! Was happy to see you recommend just off the camp -- not sure we'll get too far and will definitely start there. Thanks all so far with the hints.

Hah! You guys are amateur! We're actually planning on tenting the first night and building survival snow shelters outside for the second night, Survivorman style. I'm actually not sure if we're going to use the wood stove/cabin at all or very little. That's cub stuff. These are scouts :) All cooking...
