Re: Muskrat Lake

Thanks Smitty. How does Muskrat compare to Charleston? I've heard there is a lot of baitfish here so the fish tend to be bigger, but sometimes the bite is really off. I'm a huge fan of Charleston Lake, seeing as the shield juts down there it reminds me more of being up north with tons of structure ...

Re: Muskrat Lake

I think most of the deeper water is out from the main boat launch.

It certainly has changed since I first downloaded it as it now defaults to garmin and Lebanon Ks but it still works on my pc.

Re: Looking for Help on Marine Battery

Considering your last battery only lasted three years and the expected life span and warranties of Lithium batteries it would be better and cheaper to go with a Lithium marine battery in the long run. Not only will you get better performance but they can last 10 years or more with proper maintenance...

Re: Eastern Ontario Whities?

A good piece away but still in the 613 the best place I know of is Bark Lake, back in the 80's that's where I first learned how to use actual true tip-ups with spreaders and salted minnows for Whities. We rented shacks at Sunny Hill Resort and chummed with corn to bring them around. Also caught Lake...

All reports I've seen show 10-15cm. The local Almonte forecast calls for 8-12 cm so it might not be so bad.

Re: What's the etiquette?

If there's no one fishing the shack when you arrive then it's open to fish anywhere you want. Now I wouldn't set up 5 feet away from the shack but 15 feet away is open season so far as I'm concerned. If the guy shows up to bad for him, first come first served. Guys like that have to be careful about...

Re: Hello from Reelpro

Echo Bay Lodge was in the Hunter's Lake part of Lake Kipawa, past Alwaki Lodge. It closed in the late 1980's. It was a great lodge, a shame it closed. Here is the location pin on the Google maps. https://maps.app.goo.gl/MqMfUT9MnrjytcfG7 Tks Jim, never knew it existed there but I do see there are s...

Re: Hello from Reelpro

My family summer vacations from 1976 to 1991 were on Lake Kipawa. We stayed at Echo Bay Lodge for most of the time until it was sold and then closed then we finished our last few years at Alwaki Lodge. Always think about going back up to the lake, but just never seems to happen. Jim I don't recall ...

Re: Intro

Nice greys. I'm a huge fan of Charleston Lake, used to fish it a lot and I know it well. No boat anymore to fish it. Definitely the nicest big lake around anywhere this part of the province being a southern part of the shield the juts down south. Reminds me more of lakes up north.
Cheers

Re: Hello from Reelpro

I knew I'd seen your name before. Are you the same Mike@Reelpro as on OFC? I was just looking at the pics of your dogs. Even better are you still from Kipawa and guiding there? I started going up there in the early 80's and it's my favorite place in the world. First couple of times I camped in the s...

Your best bet would be to go on Ontario Fishing Community and ask there or do a search, lots of members that ice fish up that way.

Just use a fanny pack or knapsack to carry extra supplies, it's not like you have to use pockets. Most of the time with tools light weight equates to light duty.
