Re: St. Lawrence big pike?
Hi all, Back in the day, during the Riverfest pike derby, there always used to be 15-20 lbs that would win the boat/motor/trailer. We used to be able to catch 6ers fairly regularly and occasionally luck into an 8 to 10lbs fish on the St. Lawrence near Brockville. But that was 30+ years ago and now ...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2022 Ice season
After a few slow days this past week- finally pushed out a bit farther than most people were set up yesterday.. was sitting in 11.5 ft. Prett non-stop walleye action. Most dinks- 10-13” long. With one probably topping 15”. Still tons of fun. Almost where on the map you guys have been talking about ...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2022 Ice season
In my experience you need to be right along the shelf where the depth changes from 8-12 feet. If you are on the flat above or below the slope there is less traffic. If you go to last year's thread you will see the maps I posted. Even better when rock is present. ![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/icon/wink.gif)

Re: Auger bits
Like Jim said the transducer will shoot through the ice fine but there can't be an air gap. Here's what I do. With my 9" Jiffy I drill only a 1" hole just to make a bit of a shallow bowl. I carry a gallon ziplock with around 4" of windshield washer fluid and rest that in the hole and ...

Re: I guess -24C was worth it
WTG Steve. As I mentioned on 613 back in the day like 30+ years back the regular smelt fisherman out there would use what we call a drop shot now with up to four hooks on it and using strips of bacon as bait and a bell sinker or heavy jig. Once they caught some they would use the eyes as bait too. T...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2022 Ice season
Pay for parking??? Been fishing at Shirley's for 40 years, never heard of it. Anyone notice if the NCC has moved the boulders from the top of the launch? I've been out there twice this season. Haven't seen or heard of anyone being charged a fee for parking (it's a free lot no?). Both times I've gon...

They do relate directly to already established FMZs so it's not hard to figure out.

Re: Mississippi River
Can't help you out with Appleton but it does seem like naturally it would be a good area to try. Looking at the map I'd be tempted to try out that inside corner where it narrows down at the bend. As for 613 I can't say I disagree with their policy in outing spots at all. With 7.7K members if good sp...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2022 Ice season
My go to for minnows is Serge- close to Sherleys near Bayshore. I live around the corner from him so super convenient, but good price and good guy. I haven’t seen his truck in awhile so I’m hoping he just got rid of it and didn’t move or anything however! Will be picking some up today and can repor...

Bait in Ottawa.
Just figured I'd post this here for folks that live around Ottawa.I talked to Serge Carriere the other day and again this year he will be selling minnows out of his home near Bayshore. Right now he has Emerald and Common shiners for sale. For those not aware and new members it's by appointment only ...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2022 Ice season
Thanks for the update guys, haven't hit Shirlies for a bunch of years, may have to give it a shot this year. Wondering if anyone has hit Constance Lake yet, might check it out tomorrow Pretty sure I saw Scarkner post earlier that he was on Constance last week. It's always the first ice to freeze up.
