Re: Spring Crappie in Ottawa Area
I'll add one more thing pertaining to the Rideau for you. This applies to early season mostly but at some of those feeder creeks the Crappie don't move in from the main river until almost sunset and then you'll get a short run lasting under an hour. So even if its quiet where you are be sure to stic...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2023 Ice season
They will sometimes even spawn under the ice but right now they will be staging just outside the lagoon in the back along those far shorelines. You want to be fishing in shallow waters close to shore with huge baits as the Pike try and corral baitfish schools against the shorelines. Do you mean the...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2023 Ice season
Just a little suggestion for you guys that are still getting out. What you should be doing is taking advantage of the best big Pike fishing of the ice season right now. They will sometimes even spawn under the ice but right now they will be staging just outside the lagoon in the back along those far...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2023 Ice season
& on a side note, I emailed the NCC asking them to remove the pile of snow they plowed from the parking lot onto the boat launch. Hopefully the do something before the weekend as it will make it much easier for hut removal. Just a little common sense eh LOL. NCC just got back to me and said the...

Re: Bark Lake - Ice conditions. (Madawaska)
Really used to enjoy our March long weekends up at Bark Lake. The lake is late to freeze up but as you know March is usually the best ice. We used to fish out of Sunnyhill mostly, that's where I first learned how to use an actual real tip-up for Whities where the bait rests on the bottom with the ti...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2023 Ice season
Thanks for the tips! I ended up going again last night with minnows from Serge. I found deeper water with some current and ended up with a couple sauger and a small walleye, missed something a little bit bigger close to the hole before the bite died at around 5:45. Ice quickly went from 7" to ...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2023 Ice season
First ice season in Ottawa since I moved up for school. I've been reading other years threads for Shirleys Bay and decided to give it a try today from 2:30-6:30pm. Ice is around 6-7" pretty consistently out to where I was at 10ish feet of water, probably out about 500yds. There was one vehicle...

I did see reports of folks fishing there a couple of weeks back but haven't seen any since that warm spell. I figure if you were to phone the lodge they would know.

Re: Ice Fishing Tips & Tricks
Hello everyone! This is not my original idea but I would like to share a tip about how to make a shelf for organizing things in your popup. It's pretty simple, customizable to your specific needs, and doesn't take much space during transportation. I took a piece of cardboard to create a template fi...
