Well I have a Vex and I quite enjoy it, the difference in fishing with and without electronics is quite substantial. Hummingbirds Vex and Marcums all alike but all different. Fished up at the Moira today, fishing was slow although the ice seems fine. Picked up a few perch and marked a whole lot of nothing. Some will say go for the MarCum and some will say go for the Vexilar. Myself I bought a Vexilar this week and was able to fish with it 3 times, enjoyed having it with me it sure helped. You may want to check which mapset you are using. There are many scales used in the mapping industry and they will very quite a bit.
