Re: Cecil the Lion - How things change

No one. Without management, many animals would be extinct today. Hunting isnt the biggest threat to them, our over population on the earth is. Without a value placed on african animals, the majority of them would have been extinct long ago. A lot of "westerners" dont get it because we've b...

Re: Fur 2015

Still picking away on the trapline. I dont have much gear out, but i have enough out to make the line fun to check. I set up a new ditch after receiving a call from a land owner asking for help removing the beavers eating his orchard.. I was shocked at what i've pulled out of there in the short time...

Re: Snowshoe Hare

Get out after a fresh snow. Kick one up and get on it's tracks. They dont go far from their comfort areas and do big circles. Also, try to get to kow the area's you hunt. Bunnies love to sit and sun themselves on southern facing humps and exposures. My favorite spot is a length of railroad tracks th...

Re: 2016 Fishing Goals??

I'd like to put a limit of perch, a limit of crappie, a limit of salmon, a limit of pike and a limit of walleye in my travel cooler to bring home to NS this spring.

No trips planned for this year.

I'm really enjoying the show. I find Paul is my least favorite, but the other 5 guys are a really great to watch. I'm pulling for the sask boys too....they're doing it all in a tinnie. :D

Re: Return to Cayo Guillermo...

My only regret is not finding out abou those quads until the last day. I think a back pack, a couple of rods and a jerry can of gas will be on the agenda next year. Although i'd love to fish everyday when we're done there, enjoying the R&R with the ladies will always trump it. Such a great vacat...

Banjo, 2 years ago we had a fly tier attend this event and he tied fly's from the squirrel tails for all the kids. Some even caught some fish the following spring with them.

Tree Rat Classic 2016

Youth involvent with hunting and the outdoors is very important to our crew and we spend a lot of time through the year and seasons mentoring kids. Beyond that, we started hosting 1 day each year thats 100% for the kids. We organize a competitve, fun squirrel hunt for them at our camp. We get a bunh...

Maple, the term blanket beaver means a beaver pelt that measures above the largest grading size of 70IN. That fella measure out to 72.5IN's. http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm180/camphellbear/Trapping%202015/IMG-20151231-01620_zpsmmro33os.jpg And yes, you can make blankets ot of beaver pelts. The...

Re: Fur 2015

Only checked 1 set today and it had beaver #33 in it. A huge old 62 pounder. I'll bord him tomorrow, but he'll be a blanket for sure. http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm180/camphellbear/Trapping%202015/DSC02557_zpskpymjuqf.jpg We got a good dump of snow, so i'll have to spend tomorrow and clean up...

Re: Fur 2015

This trapping season is going great. We havent gotten any snow yet and we really need a cold snap to get things going, but despite that this years catch is already better then last years great season. With 29 beavers on boards, a highlight this week was a 62lb tank. 8 of the 9 bears are done. The la...

Year End Report

I dont fish much anymore. I spend a couple months in southern ontario each spring for work and while i'm there i like to catch my limits of my favorite eating sportfish to bring home to NS for our summer fish fry nights. One thing I love about ON are the incendental catches that can happen and this ...
