For Splake, I would recommend trolling spoons. Smallmouth, hard to beat a drop-shot rig.

I have been there (years ago) and found shore access quite restrictive compared to other creeks a bit further.
Skarkner, your canoe idea is a good one, a good way to avoid shore access issues.
