Re: skootamatta, big gull, kennebec -where would you go?
Always wanted to fish Skootamatta myself. I've had a few guys tell me there's some big pike in the lake if you can find them. Supposedly good Smallies and the chance of decent Walleye add to the temptation. It doesn't hurt that the lake has a reputation as being real eye candy as well. I might hit i...

Re: figuring out line depth when trolling
I have had some success flatlining for Lakers with a heavy spoon\jig spoon like a Crippled Minnow or Kastmaster; these lures get down a lot easier than some other baits, so you can let out less line. I've also tried leadcore line to get my lures deep. Which ever way you choose, success is normally ...

Re: Lifer Longnose Gar
Really COOL looking fish! Congrats. Would love to land one someday. I know so little about them. I do know the Alligator Gar down South is one of the most amazing fish that swims in fresh water (based on some articles I read). I would almost be afraid to tangle with one of those 100 plus pound mons...

Re: Lakers from a canoe Charleston Lake PP, possible?
May lady luck is on your side Steady Eddy! Hopefully the breeze will be soft so you can explore the many gorgeous fishing spots in your canoe around this big lake; it's nice to get in among the maze of islands and take in all the natural scenery; sometimes the fish may even bother you. If th...

Re: Lakers from a canoe Charleston Lake PP, possible?
You can try the steep-deep Western shoreline (the opposite shore just Southwest of Democrat Island). The depths here plunge to well over 100 feet very quickly, and if you try a fairly heavy jig tipped with a salted minnow or worm, you can slowly work it up along the steep wall or other humps you fi...

Callander Bay
I always liked fishing Callander Bay in the past, and was thinking of heading back up there again. I hate to always sound negative, but I'm hearing the big bay is in serious decline as far as the fishing goes. It's been a few years since I've been there; I always did well with bass and big pike in t...

Re: Charleston Lake Lakers
Thanks for the great info guys....or should I say "not so great." I've been going to Charleston for a week long family vacation for almost a decade now, always the last part of May for the opening weekend. I used to nail them just trolling a flat line and spoon, and there were some real ni...

Charleston Lake Lakers
Seems as though the Lake Trout fishing in Charleston Lake is not what it was a few years ago, at least for me anyway. Maybe it's due to my eroding fishing skills, but a few years ago it seemed much easier to consistently find them. I was there recently and did ok with Pike, but Lakers continued to e...

Wow, sounds like a great trip. The way you guys described it was more entertaining than a fishing magazine article. I'm intrigued with Quebec, and I've never fished it before. The musky info was really exciting because I'm having a tough time finding any large, pristine lakes containing muskies in Q...
