Just one question: What was your technique for whitefish? Strictly trolling? Yes, we slow troll (les than 2 mph) leadline with small trolling spoons. Michigan Stingers are the brand name. The real trick is finding fish. This summer they were hanging in 60 -80 fow around 40 ft down. In October we fi...

2010 Whitefish Lodge
Another successful trip to Whitefish lodge. This time I went in July so I could take my 15 year old son. (my usual trip is in October - he's in school) We fished several lakes in the Gracefield area and had a good time at all of them. My son set a goal for the week to catch three fish species he had...

Try this lodge on Lac Heney in Gracefield: http://www.whitefishlodge.ca Charles Varin - He runs a nice operation and will go out of his way to put you on the fish. My family has been going there for over ten years now. A direct phone call is the best way to reach him. Call him later in the evening t...

Pike Fishing - Leader or no Leader?
This goes against conventional theory, but an experienced native Quebec pike fisherman that I go out fishing with refuses to use any type leader (Steel, Floro, Titanium). He swears by heavy big game mono or braid tied directly to the lure. He claims he has had as many leaders fail on big pike as he ...

Rod/line guides breaking
Just got back from a week of Pike fishing up near Maniwaki. Too much wind for the most part and not much biting. We took a few keepers in the 28 - 30 inch range and had a great day on Friday trolling whites. I had a problem with my guides breaking. I use a moderate size spinning reel, 30lb power pro...

More Eagles
Just read the other post on Bald Eagles. I took this shot of one our local feathered hunters circling one of our fishing holes last week in Central NY. These birds are absolutely majestic!!

In open water I like to jerk-line with leadcore. I find them just offshore near deep water cliffs. They hang anywhere from 30 to 50 ft. Slow troll (1 -2 mph) a thin spoon to your target depth with leadcore. Now as your moving, give the line a quick jerk forward in the direction your trolling, then a...

Whitefish Lodge - Gracefield Quebec
I just got back to NY from a 5 day trip to Whitefish Lodge on Lac Heney in Gracefield, Quebec. We had a great time and caught some nice fish. Charlie Varin is the owner. He and his staff are some of the nicest people you are going to meet. The meals are great and the accomodations (cabins) are more ...

Yes, staying at Whitefish Lodge. We are leaving NY in the morning and will probably stay until Friday. I love the 5 lakes but I have a 17' Smokercraft and unless Charlie's access road is alot better than last year, I'm not sure if I want to drag it through 3 miles of log roads again to get there. Ch...

Lac Heney & Permichagon
Leaving soon for a 5 day trip to the Lac Heney region in Gracefield, Quebec. In the past I have been on Heney, Permichagon and Green. Any advice or suggestions for Pike on these lakes or surrounding waters?
I promise a report upon my return. Thanks....
