This time of year, they might not bite anything, but if they do it'll be something small.

Its not a lake, its a town in Quebec called Val des Monts, but I can see how it could be called Lac du Mont because there is a lake near the town.

Soon the ice will be gone on Calabogie Lake. Probably in a few weeks there won't be anymore ice there so anyone can go fishing there but you can only fish for the fish in season at the time.

If you're caught with an out of season fish, you can be fined so its best not to fish for out of season fish.

Sad... so sad....

Taking it a bit to far maybe?

Chances of catching and then releasing that ballooned and extremely stressed fish and it survives? I'm guessing 0%.

Forgot to mention the surprise of the day!

After a few trout caught, a hard hit and to my surprise reeled in PIKE!

Never though I'd catch a pike in Shiner. It was very small but won't be for long in that lake when its got lots of tasty trout for it to munch on.

Shiner Lake

What a day!

Just got back from good ol' reliable Shiner Lake near Calabogie.

Caught a bunch of real nice trout, a bunch of real nice keepers and too many small ones.

Still nice ice and nothing beats the scenery there!

Shiner and Limestone

Spent the weekend in the Bogie area fishing. Shiner wasn't too bad, nobody there and limestone I only saw one fisherman. Both were productive with a total of 27 trouters, its about time they bit. Shiner was dirty, lots of garbage on and off the ice, best to close it next year but limestine was OK, m...

This isn't new at all. If you've got family members going with you they can probably be your guides. That's what I always do and haven't had a problem yet. But I've only run into one CO.

So... This was at your derby? Or at a different lake? Either way, not really your beef unless you're the private access owner. And the guy can fish 1 foot away from you I think if he wants to, I think?...

Anyway, ice fishing is boring unless you move around anyway...

Shiner and Scully are good ice fishing lakes with Shiner being the better and more accessible of the two. Its hard to not catch fish at Shiner especially in the winter, Scully is much more challenging. On the other side of C. Bogie are several other good trout lakes like Long lake and others. Easy t...

I've seen many CO's but always where I would expect them to be: BOQ, Ottawa River (constance bay) and Calabogie. I'd rather see them them in the less predictable and less popular areas for them to be more useful. Also, I'm always "pulled over" for inspection even though I'm wearing a visbl...
