Re: Fly fishing problem
On a side note, I would not leave your gear in your truck whenever the weather is such that your truck's interior heats up. Heat will destroy your fly line. If you've invested in a good line, it should last years if you take care of it, but leaving it in a hot trunk, etc., will ruin it in no time.

Re: WTB: Beginner 5 wt fly reel
Hi All, Looking to buy a 5 wt fly reel (also looking for matched line, leader and tippet).... Picked up a rod which I can use as a fly rod and maybe trying to introduce myself to some fly fishing basics but looking to keep things inexpensive for now. Hmmm...you picked up a rod you "can use&quo...

Re: wading boot maintenance
On a side note I personally prefer using AquaStealth vibram soled boots now and screw in some Hardbite Star cleats for added safety. I've found that the sole/cleats will pretty much last for the entire lifetime of the boot.

Re: wading boot maintenance
Just pick up some replacement felt soles at your local shop and take them to a shoe repair store and have them replace the felt for you.

Re: Fishing the Credit
The fishing on the Credit is just good as on the Ganny and can be just as crowded. It's all about hitting the the run at the right time and on a weekday, rather than a weekend.

Re: float tube question
Nah...beavers just like to scare the crap out of you, slapping their tails next to you when you're not expecting it. It's the big snapping turtles that swim after you that can be annoying.

Re: wet wading
I know Simms, Orvis and Patagonia make wading socks with an integrated gravel guard. The inexpensive option is to pick up a pair of neoprene paddling socks from MEC or any popular outdoor shop.

Re: Fish-Hawk Improvements....
Glad to see effort put into the site. Though I must say that I was a little disappointed that I was forced to use the FishHawk theme after I updated my email address. I personally preferred the "Professional" theme (or whatever it was called). I personally find the FishHawk theme virtually...

Re: A question about flies
Ontario doesn't have any fly fishing specific regs so it's just a matter of taking not of any special regs listed for the water you're fishing.

Re: Trout in Rideau?
1. No trout in the Rideau
2. I fly fish for anything
3. They're most likely just "washing their flies as legally only panfish and coarse fish are currently open, and even so the water is still too cold. If the weather holds, the crappie bite should start up next weekend.

Re: Early spring shore fishing - Jock River / Ottawa South
Has anyone had luck with crappie in the Jock or do they mostly stick in the Rideau? I've never caught one. No crappie in the Jock. The creek mouths on the Rideau are a good bet once the back bays start to warm up. When the crappie reports start to get posted or you see a number of cars parked near ...

Re: Early spring shore fishing - Jock River / Ottawa South
Way too early and way too dangerous. A couple guys found out the hard way a number of years back. The first fish of the season are typically crappie, though you'll still have to wait for the back bays to open up and warm up. My guess would be the first weekend in April.
