fall stream trout?

Good day all, My friend has a cottage in Quebec situated on a small stream (well small river I guess, its about 10-20 yards across). I have caught some nice specks in the spring but have never tried in the fall. Do specks get active in the early fall or are they primarily a spring biting species. I ...

i hear you on having trouble hooking into them! It seems they are just 'bomping' it and nothing else. I downsized my hook and bait and that solved matters - give it a shot.

agreed`

yeah, a bit slow this year I guess. They seemed to be in closer to shore too. I remember casting out like a rocket launcher last year to get out to them.

victoria island?

Has anyone been down lately? I snuck down Tuesday evening for an hour or so and got two smaller cats. Two fellas in a boat were getting some baby walleye. My secret bait: cheap steak. Its great for cats…plus, you never loose the bait as its quite tough.

I'm thinking of heading town tonight

Crotch lake

Good afternoon all,

Anyone ever fished it in late September? Plans to go to Algonquin are falling through and Crotch lake was recommended to me. I’m wondering if the eyes shut down with the colder weather or wether they put on the feedbags for the winter.

Thanks all.

P.

Worm Harness

Morning all, Does anyone have a technique for weighting your worm harness? I usually use a small bell sinker on a leader at the same place I attach my harness. The problem is the harness gets tangled in the weight. Is this just part of harness fishing or is there a better way to get your harness dow...

Algonquin Park Question and Photo

Algonquin Park Morning, Being a long time resident of Ottawa and never having been to Algonquin park I decided that this September I must finally check it out. Now, fishing in the park is obviously at its peak in the spring, however, has anyone traversed the park in search of trout in September that...

no issues with it

My only concern when people are fishing in front of my cottage is that they'll catch 'my fish', haha. Actually, I quite like people fishing out in front of my cottage, I usually ask what they are using and their techniques. We share a fishing moment and be on our way. Then again, I only see a few pe...

I used to live in the "Soo" and fishing was done right near the Dam (downtown) for pinks and kings. You can buy "Buzz Baits" from the local divers. Fishing can be pretty busy depending on the run that year. There is also a neat little stream I used to fish in Hiawatha park. Its a...

Thanks

Thanks CClad, I'll try that for sure. I may even give Graham Bay a try.

All the best. I'll be in a tin can style boat with another angler.

Many thanks,

Paul

Shirley's Bay

Has anyone been fishing in/around Shirley’s Bay recently? How is the eye action? What do they hit on (generally) in the area, I understand it is, for the most part, about 10 feet deep. I’m thinking tolling stick baits along weed lines or slow drifting worm harnesses. Have a great day all and try...

Trout Action

Morning all, After my original trout fishing trip this past weekend fell through I was a sad lad. As a second best option I went to a friends cottage to party with a group of friends. The cottage is on a small river in Quebec and I have fished it without any real success. However, I have never fishe...

Line

Hey all, This is a simple question with likely varying answers. Just wondering how people put line on their reel from a spool. In the past I have done the old pen trick (put the pen through the hole in the spool and have someone hold it applying bit of pressure while I reel). However, I tend to get ...
