WOW. That's a lot of information. It doesn't seem as simple as I had hoped. I had never considered the cooling effects of the wind and it pushing specific temperatures of water with it. It appears that water at 39.2F would always remain at the bottom of the water column due to it being the h...

Water Temperature & Depth

Hi All,

Is there a general rule of thumb to estimate water temperature at specific depths? For example: if the surface temp is 60F, how deep must you get to reach 50F

Obviously there are many variables that effect temperature, but is there a good way to estimate?

thanks

Thanks Everyone! All this advice is great :D I have been eyeing the Clarus, as it is a little cheaper than the Compre. Still haven't made up my mind yet. Good advice about line stretch. I had intended to use 20/8 Fireline with a 12 or 15lb Flouro leader. I find I get bitten off by Pike if I run anyt...

Thanks RJ! I appreciate your advice. I will be going with a 7' medium action rod. When I can, I'll get your advice on a muskie specific outfit. Just have figure out how to explain to my wife why I need another rod

Have a great week

Thanks RJ, I guess it was just wishful thinking to get an outfit that will do "everything" . I do use a variety of spinning combos (M, MH) for trolling at this point. I don't use planer boards, or other trolling gear. Just a man, a boat, some line, and a lure. Consider me old school...

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I had looked at a 7' Shimano TDR the other day. I thought it would be a good match for what I am looking for. I don't use a downrigger or divers.

Please feel free to offer more suggestions.

Looking for Suggestions

Hello to everyone, Just registered, but have enjoyed this site for awhile. I hope to make some new friends and learn from all of you. I just picked up a Daiwa Accudepth 17 and am looking for suggestions for a suitable rod to go with it. I am looking for this set up to be an "all-purpose" t...
