Re: Has their been a Ottawa area fish hawk meet up?
Yeah I feel like this forum has really slowed down since the pandemic when it got a bunch of new users. Now its just a bunch of bots and people reading but not interacting. It's too bad that there's less activity on here, but I'm also happy that there's less and less of the noobs who started in 2020...

Re: Has their been a Ottawa area fish hawk meet up?
I know that some of the site admins (Jim Wilson for example) have tried to organize some stuff at Shirley's bay during the ice season, but I'm not sure if anything ever ended up happening. I'd love it if there was ever a Fish-Hawk event but maybe send a PM to Jim W if you want more info

Re: Ottawa river/area wading question
Yeah the other wading spot i had in mind (which is definitely not safe yet) mostly has smallies. I've been trying to get on walleye recently and had some real good luck today on my spot on the river. Got 7 walleyes in 40ish minutes, one was 24 inches. Pretty good for my second time targeting them so...

Re: Ottawa river/area wading question
haha I'd be down, man. I'll check out that combo and see if I can make room in my already irresponsible fishing budget for it lol. I think my nervous system could use the calming zen of fly fishing once I graduate in a month. Gonna need a lot of fishing days to relax.

Re: Ottawa river/area wading question
Glad to hear it. Fly fishing is definitely on my list for new skills this year... Just trying to figure out where to get the best deal on a starter set-up.

Re: Daiwa CND custom ML eyelets
Huh. Interesting. I will admit that once you're comfortable with the Alberto knot it can be a lot faster than the double uni, but it was just too finnagly for me.

Re: Ottawa river/area wading question
For Crappie you could maybe try Green's Creek. I'm not sure what the wading scene is like there, but I know that you can get crappies in there and it's a tributary of the Ottawa river.

Re: Ottawa river/area wading question
I haven’t been out in the past few days, but I’ve observed that the river has been higher this year than most other years, and for longer. I could be wrong, but I think most spots will still be higher than you might want to wade in. I’d wait until about mid June, personally.

Re: Daiwa CND custom ML eyelets
Oh the horrors indeed. The Alberto knot is great but I found that even after a year of using it I’d still mess it up and have to redo it most times I tied it. Eventually I just gave up and started using a double-uni.

No offence to the last 2 respondents if you're real people (actually it would be a compliment since it means you write professionally
) but it really seems like some new 'members' to this forum are AI bots.... very odd. Does anyone notice this too?

Re: Eastern Ontario Whities?
I caught my first Whitie on Lake Clear in Renfew County this past ice season, and she was a good size too, about 24 inches. I've talked to some guides on that lake and they say if you know what to do you can get on a decent bite. Definitely a learning curve since it's a bigger lake compared to most ...
