Other photo tips
If you are backlit, use a flash if you have it. Actually, for most fishing photos a flash will improve the photo. Notice on Justin's 2nd photo, how the fish have that nice shine and highlights -- I'm guessing it's from a flash (or the inside of his boat is white enough to act as a reflector). Anothe...

Sorry, I wouldn't recommend a float tube. The rapids are rated class III-IV, with multiple channels and some fairly big volume (see the image below; the rapids have names like Bus Eater and Butcher's Knife for a reason  ). One of the rafting companies does take customers down on river boards (...

Rocher Fendu report
I decided to bring my rod along on the weekend while doing a little white water kayaking on the Rocher Fendu section of the Ottawa (where the rafting companies are). Between trolling on the flat water sections, and fishing in the eddies and rapids themselves, I had about 20 fish on for the day, and ...

I'm just curious what the requirement is to legally transport x number of fish over the limit? For example, many sports fish (e.g. walleye) are commonly available at many fish markets. They are obviously transported there and around town in numbers well over the legal possession limit for an angler....

I brought my rod along while whitewater kayaking on the weekend (on the Ottawa near Beachburg). Casting from shore at one of the rapids, my crankbait foul hooked a sturgeon for a few seconds until it rolled and freed itself. Now that I've got a spot for them, I may try targeting them. It'll be kind ...

maps, maps, maps!
Satellite maps online at Google. Lets you drag & zoom, etc. Good for figuring out the shoreline, etc. of places like Petrie. Actually, if you type Petrie Island into the search box, it will show you where the bait shop is located.

Fish mounts -- an alternative
Never mind the debate between skin or artificial mounts. Check out these bad boys: made from hubcaps found on the side of the road.

I've been out there 3 times in the last 1.5 weeks. No bites the first two times (went between 4-8pm looking for walleye or ling). Sunday, perch were biting between 10-11:30am, then they shut down on me. I came back later in the afternoon and got 3 sauger within 15 minutes, and then nothing. I don't ...

Re: eatin fish
g unis, do yourself a favour: find a good Japanese restaurant and order some Unagi (eel) kabayaki (the sauce it is grilled with). Alternatively, you should be able to find some pre-made and frozen in an asian food market. Served warm, it will almost melt in your mouth due to it's high fat content. I...

I bought a Swede-bore last year. Some dampness in storage in the off season caused some surface rust on the blades. I re-sharpened them by hand last week and they're as good as new now. So, if you're up for sharpening them yourself when they start to dull, they'll last a long, long time. A few minut...
