Best ice braid for walleye during hard water ?

Even tough I'm not a fan of ice fishing 5 months is a lot without fishing so it seems like I have to adapt. I was thinking at jigging for walleyes and maybe doing some drop shot as well but mono lines or FC have lots of memory and are not such a good transmitter when it comes to vibrations therefore...

Re: Must have jigging rods on Ottawa River?

Thanks for the answer but I would like to know what jig weights do you use? Do you throw 1 to 2 oz jigs ? I have a rod for 1/4 -3/4 oz do I need something for heavier jigs or something for lighter ones ( like 1/8-3/8) ? I don’t really know how deep the river is and how strong the current is and I wa...

Re: Must have jigging rods on Ottawa River?

Well I hope this is not a taboo subject :D Thing is , one of my favorites blank manufacturers is currently having a promotion on which I would very much like to take advantage of so, any advice is more than welcome at this point. I do accept private messages if you consider to be a secret the rods y...

Re: All males? where are the females then?

Looks like you caught a nice sauger there as well (fish in last picture). 1st one kinda looks sauger-ish too but cant really tell head on like that. Well done, dinner size! Yeap, the last one was a Sauger indeed but in the first picture it was a Walleye. Here is another picture of the same fish : 6...

Re: All males? where are the females then?

The females love to party at night. Go to your spot at night and you'll likely pick up a big fat female. Thanks for the tip ! I've tried a couple of hours after sunset as well but with no luck. It was a bit cold as well :) On the other hand I don"t know the hours during which the Power P...

Must have jigging rods on Ottawa River?

All males? where are the females then?

Another week has passed and I managed to catch a few more snow walleyes again. Moon was not in a major phase so they, just like their European cousin were showing the same behavior hitting the lures with their bodies instead of biting. After taking a couple of them "by the hand " ( as I li...

Re: The Snow Musky -another unexpected guest

Thank you all for the kind words, it was caught on the Ontarian side near Alexandra Bridge. You can actually have a better look of the area in the short clip I managed to do with my phone while I was fighting it. You can find the clip on my rodbuilding facebook page (see signature) as a comment at t...

The Snow Musky -another unexpected guest

So, one week later, a piked up my rod again and went back to my walleye spot for more fun. I was hoping to be ice free so I can fish a bit, even if I won't catch anything. I went prepared with lots of new soft plastics, some ice line, and my walleye rod. If they are biting it should be fun. My secon...

Re: The Snow walleye -an unexpected guest

Well, ice fishing is not really my thing . I have next to no knowledge in this field, I’ve barely put together some equipment last spring and I have no buddy to fish with during winter ( I do have my wife as an excellent team mate during summer but she hates cold weather ) .That being said ,I can pr...

The Snow walleye -an unexpected guest

My first year in Canada is almost complete so starting with the first snow of the year I found some time for my first report here. Usually, back home, I used to go out searching for big northern pike when I use to see the snowflakes falling from the sky . This is just what I have done here as well s...

Re: Tackle (Reel) import from Japan - customs

Thank you both for your quick replies . I kind of get the idea . I will think about it . What if one buys something used ( like from a eBay auction) and is no bill there ?
