Remember the Torpedo? (Pic Heavy)
Older Hawk Talkers may remember my son, Tyler, a.k.a. Fish-hawk's "Torpedo." Although he wasn't born with a fishing pole in his hand, it wasn't long afterwards that he was hooked, and showing a natural affinity and intuitiveness for the sport.
Well, the Torpedo has grown up. He's got a driver's license now and an old Chevy pick-up, as well as a circa 1960-something, blue tinny that he puts on the water frequently...except when he convinces us to lend him the Stratos. He just started his senior year in high school and at this very moment is checking out two colleges with his Dad (both have a bass fishing team!).
His fishing prowess has continued to develop over the years; and although he and I duked it out pretty good last summer, he has clearly surpassed my skill level this year. Here are some photo's of the kid with an assortment of his catches.
Ty turns 18 next month, and as I look back on all those years of parenting him, I know there were plenty of screw-ups on my part. BUT, I can confidently say that I "done good" when I passed along the gift of fishing to my son, as it was passed on to me by my dad many years ago. He'll have that gift from me for the rest of his life, and I hope one day (not TOO soon ) that he'll give that same gift to his kids, too.
Thanks for checking out this post!

Re: Remember the Torpedo? (Pic Heavy)
Thanks so much, guys. Some times I have to remind myself he's a young man now, and not a little kid.... but some times I wish I could set the clock back just a little and revisit those days when he was small. He's headed home now from 2 college visits, and I can't wait to hear all about it. He already checked out one of the ponds on campus and reported "giant bluegills."
I'll try to encourage Ty to put together some future reports. He tells me he can't wait for ICE. Ugh........ I can wait, plenty. Hate to see summer go!

By the way, Steve, we had a nice replica made of that giant bass Ty caught as a kid; it hangs on our cottage wall. Hope all's well with you!

Great to see Hammy Steve still checking out FH.
Ty certainly appears to have grown into a fine young man that still likes to wet a line. I swear kids that fish stay clear of trouble and turn into even better adults, some exceptions of course...
Thanks for the update!

Re: Remember the Torpedo? (Pic Heavy)
My thinking is family and fishing have and will continue to take Tyler far in his life.
Recently saw pics of Jonathan too, Simon's "young man," and now Tyler, reminding me of those earlier years back here during the good old days.
And not in any rush for my oldest daughter or anything, but down the road I'm hoping she meets a nice fella of good stock, and who likes his outdoors and fishing too.
You're raising 'em right Margie. Always have been, always will.

I remember the torpedo! Cool flash back! They grow fast!
Re: Remember the Torpedo? (Pic Heavy)
Congrats to the Torpedo!
My he has grown! SO has his skill set from the pics!
I will also second the opinions here.
I watch my 2 oldest and each year they both become more keen to wet a line. My 12 year old daughter got hooked on carping at Long Sault this summer!
Now we shall see if the younger 2 (21 months and 5 months) to see if the bug hits them too.
I know a certain older brother who cannot wait to take his younger brother out!
