Boat sank in BoQ
Boat sank in BoQ
In the Belleville Intelligencer this morning an 18 foot Tracker Tundra sank in Adolphus Reach. 4 men in floater suits pulled out of the water by charter boats. Theses guy's are very lucky that there were other boats around. I thought these boats were suppose to float when full of water. Maybe I'll put the boat away for the winter.

Insane. Those guys are extremely lucky the charter boat saw them. If they were like that after 5 minutes, they would not have survived for an hour.
Happy ending all around (aside from the loss of the boat)

That is awful!
What would cause a boat to capsize though?

Very fortunate that someone was close by.

60 km winds and 4 to 5ft waves.... Quinte is a different beast than fishing around here.StarTzar wrote:I was thinking the exact same thing.Jimmy_1 wrote:

Just glad to hear they are all safe, I was fishing the same spot the day before and it was glass.
Kudos to Scott Walcott and Sheldon Hatch

Ok understood about the waves!
She must have taken in quite a lot of water to capsize!
Some VERY lucky individuals to say the least!

What I don't understand is why it sank. I thought boats under 20 feet were required to be constructed with level flotation.
I love golf it keeps thousands of unworthy off the water
Re: Boat sank in BoQ
under normal conditions and if the boat is not overloaded and the weight is distributed properly it should float. Even the high end bass boats will go down, I have seen one tied up at a dock that took wave after wave and went down, maybe the fact that it was tied up played a role but you can never assume that the boat will stay afloat in super rough seas.horsehunter wrote:What I don't understand is why it sank. Re: Boat sank in BoQ
I was out that day and it was probably one of the rougher days I have been out in my 16ft fibreglass
Started off good with just a little chop then around 10am a couple walls of snow blew through and the winds picked up went from a chop to 4+ ft rollers as soon as that started around 11 we pulled lines and headed back to the launch at about 10MPH couldnt go any faster or I would just smash wave after wave as it was we got soaked heading back to the launch an 18ft aluminum with 4 ppl is a full load especially in rough water it sits lower water weighs a lot so that would just compound it
saw the crowd of boats in the reach but had no idea this what what was going on when we headed back

Hollywood and I had a very interesting adventure in my 15 foot skeeter on BOQ. I think there was more water in my boat that in the lake. Funny story now, but at the time I was not so happy. lol
Hollywood catches more perch than me

Why even be out on that type of water in 4-5 foot waves ecspecially in this cold weather! Some people should really use their heads
An expesnvie fishing adventure I guess, dont think insurance will cover that boat.lol

Re: Boat sank in BoQ
no exclusion in marine / boat policies for fishing in rough water....
but many policies have layup periods that often include the month of November.

I was the BoQ a couple of days before and it was as smooth as silk... I guess people make plans and are just to stubborn to give them up when they go through the hassle of getting ready and showing up.
It's not just now though... In June on the Shad run in Carrilion I saw people motoring up to the dam on small under powered boats with dinky engines. They were about 4 inches from being swamped bailing with a thermos cup.
