We used to use Cornwall Spinners most of the time, for pike, and found that their jaws are so strong, they could twist that spinner wire 20 different ways, come up to the boat with the bait held crossways in their mouths, then, just drop it.
Couldn't set it hard enough to move it in their mouths. Then, when they were really feeding, they'd come from behind and engulf the hook, minnow, and on up..........terrible on dink pike. Right down in the guts.
We stopped using them, and began using spinner baits with no trailer (lots of gut hooking with these), and let the pike hook themselves. No need for a rodbreaker.
IMHO the new braided line is the best thing since sliced bread, and no need for a section of mono at the end. The pike do it to themselves, just hang on and reel.
Helps if you fish a lot, and learn from your mistakes, such as, not eating bass, etc...............
