MT, from my own trial and error experiences....a kicker motor and a VHF are necessities. Forget the bow mount trolling motor.....the VIP is for that type of fishing.
Is there lots of room up the sides to drop a couple rod holders in near the back? I'd also add the scotty triple up a little further.
I really think once you get the motor (s) installed, you'll be off to the races.

Well, the VIP has a good run in 2005. But she ain't well rigged for Quinte, and the water around here is starting to get a little stiff. So I put her to bed today after my outting with Bacon.
To the surprise of VIP nation however, the VIP did not get her usual perch in the ultra-cozy tempo garage. But rather, was reduced to a giant tarp outback of the house.
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/ ... r_Tarp.jpg">
But why MT, WHY??!! Well, another lady friend of mine will be spending time in the tempo.
The 20' boat project, or as I think it will adopt the suggested name ... THE MONEY PIT.
Figuring I may actually get some work done on her this winter, or at least dream of new ideas, I tucked her into the much more accessible tempo.
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/ ... eTempo.jpg">
MT, you are mad!!!
Yes, the VIP is literally 20 times more expensive than the 20' footer.
But, by the same token, my wife is 20 times more expensive than my girlfriend.
Just kidding honey.
Stay tuned gang, may actually do some work on this thing over the long winter. Soon as I get the tractor done, then work on the basement, and lord forbid I make some progress on the kitchen.

OK fellas, I have a question on where and how to install rod holders as they pertain to planer boards.
High to Low (front to back)
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/ ... toBack.jpg">
or
Low to High (front to back)
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/ ... toBack.jpg">
My dilemna here is I have 2 titelocks. And don't know whether I should be installing them up front, or further back.
I am also considering flush-mount rod holders
and/or Berkley type rod holders.
Keeping in mind that I'll also need to be set up for down rigging and using dipseys.
My ultimate goal is to have this boat properly fish 4 guys.

Bill, I like my rods closer to the back for the planner lines. Remaber when you turn, the outside planner board rope will cut in across the boat. The further back the rod is on the gunnel, the lees chance the planner rope has of reaching it.
I also like the option of using the same rod hoder for my dipseys...tilt forward and out and you're ready. Make sure its a comfortable distance behind your riggers though.
You could also install a rail so you can slide teh rod holders up and down athe gunnela nd put them where ever you want.

So, let assume I put rails on the front of the boat like yours (I have none currently), you put a rail mount titelock on there.
Then the stand alone tight lock?
And them maybe a flush mount?
So, assuming the rods are further back ...
Which of the 2 pics best describes your set up. High to Low or Low to High?

procrastinating studying and saw your post
the best way to mount rod holders for your mast is at the back half of your boat as mark said the line will come across your poles if they are not back there. if you know someone who works with stainless just get 3 1-1/4 inch tubes about 12" long and weld them on a base and screw that to the side of you boat, the first pole closest to the front will be the straightest one up and as you go closer to the back i would angle them out, try to have the tips 4-6 inches apart so like 5-10 degree increments is not bad i used 7 degrees so over 3 poles i drop 21 degrees. that way you can have 4 holders for cheap if you make them, put 4 on each side if u can cause one day you will need them and they come in handy to put rods in that you are clearing from the back when u have a fish on

MT the boats bare right now so you can add what you want. A 1" or 7/8 OD tube from mid ship to stern, both sides, gunwale height or slightly below. Rail mount rod holders on each side, you can move them forward or aft and angle them at any angle you like Picture a long towel rack down each side of your boat, on the inside of course. Galved plumbing pipe and fittings would work.

Cheap way! Of course there is/ must be. Thinking right now, what have you got for holders presently? Sqig69 fabbed some decent ones maybe he could post a pic. 4 fisher people potentially 8 rods, 2 should maybe be straight out the back? 3 per side that we need adjustable front to back and angularly Hmm. Give me a day or so, got an idea right now just need to mull it over some more. Got to say though those tite locks are nice but a spring loaded plunger would make angular adjustment much easier
