Need help!

Post by Johnny Bass »

Well As you guys know I purchased a 16 footer.

Now I need something to pull it.

Do you think An 1988 Nissan pathfinder with 300K is too old?

There is also a windstar in mint condition for $8900(taxes,cert,drive clean, inlcuded), 128k fully loaded 1999. But after the boat it is a little pricey right now.

Do you think the pathfinder is risky at those kilometers?

I wouldnt pull it with a windstar. Are the Pathfinders Km highway? How far do you tow your boat?

I hate giving advise on vehicles because my luck with them can be so poor.

My brother has had 2 Nissan Pathfinders and is on his third now, both previous ones died at about 300k...so getting them early and going 300k is good, getting them at 300k is not as good.

Is that advise? Good luck.

I had a Windstar pulling a 14ft and it had no power. I would advice against.

I now have a Kia Sedona and you don't even know you're pulling a boat. So I don't think the problem was that it was a van, I think it was just the fact that it was a Windstar.

The previous comments were the personal experiences from a board member and reflect in no shape or form the opinion of Fish-Hawk.net  :D

I think it depends what motor is in a van and whether or not you have had any tranny adjustments made.

For example, FishHawk pulls his 18 foot princecraft with a 115 HP on the back with a Windstar with a 3.8L motor. I have been in that setup several times and it isn't a problem. Maybe it would be with a 3.0L motor which also comes on the Windstar, but the 3.8L is a 200HP motor and your 16 foot wouldl be well under its capacity

Thanks guys. That really Helps. I also phoned Nissan and he said that Nissans last 300-350,000k. So at 300K plus pulling a boat he said you can get about 25,000K more if your lucky......

So for a used Truck what do you recomend with high clicks? SHould I go with a pick up truck?

They actually said they last 300 to 350,000?...

it depends on whether you need this to be a family vehicle too.....a half ton would be great for hauling!

Pathfinders have problems with rusty frames above the rear wheels and all the way back to the bumper mounts, at my shop we have repaired a few of them with this condition so for sure check that out if you decide on the pathfinder.

Thanks rider. It sin mint condition. I am only worried about the tranni. the thing even has air conditioning and a system.....

It would be PERFECT to drive but I am skeptical about pulling a boat.

I would trade my honda for this if my Honda wasn't so good on gas....
