Rice Lake or Buckhorn in Ontario

For the past 10 years on and off we have been going to Rice Lake as a family vacation. We usually stay at the Sunrise campground on the west end of the lake. Their is three families that get together for a week and we rent a pontoon boat and have a great time fishing for bluegill and sunfish. Between the three families their is six kids between the age of 1 yr to 12 years and everybody enjoys the fishing. Only one problem the last two years things have been getting very slow at Rice Lake, we used to go out and get a 100 or more  in a morning with 15 people fishing, now it runs in the 20-30 range and the size is smaller :( . We heard from a friend that Buckhorn is much better with bigger fish and more of them, like Rice lake used to be. I would appreciate any personal experiences you have had or suggestions on Buckhorn. We are planning a week trip for the third week in June and would need a campsite and a pontoon boat to rent.

Thanks,
John

I am assuming (I know I shouldn't do it) that you are out for bass, I have personally fished bith lake over the last two years and would have to say The are both great fisheries with the scales slightly tipping towards Buckhorn because of the accessibility to Chemong and Pigeon. Just remember both lakes are highly pressured from tournamentsevery year, so you might have to change up or try new techniques. If you have any questions just ask.

I doubt its bass fishing, during those times of the year.

I would suggest trying Buckhorn for the change of scenery and due to the fact you seem slightly unhappy with the fishing on Rice lately. The fishing should be just as good and you would also have access to Pigeon and Chemong lakes as well as they are all joined w/o locking(as long as it's upper Buckhorn). You are also very close to the city of Peterborough should you want to go into town.

Thanks for all your suggestions guys. I will pass it along to the other families involved and will see what happens. I will be sure to post a result in late June when we get back.

Happy fishing.

if your choosing between UPper and Lower buckhorn, i also agree with Upper.

More water to fish. More weed growth for panfish.
