leeches

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

leeches

Post by Mick »

any know where I might find a couple pounds of leeches in early September? i normally go north walleye fishing in June and am able to get what i need from Charlie in Rockland but he's out. We are driving north on the 105 so anything heading that way works too.

appreciate any ideas.

thanks boys

Leeches are easy to care for. Buy the leeches you require as late into Aug as possible and simply keep them clean (exchange water leeches are in - see note ) and cold (store in frig) at home. Leech Tamer bags really facilitate the storage and cleaning of leeches.

Note from the internet

Caring for Leeches
Avoid placing leeches in chlorinated water. Leeches are sensitive to substances such as chlorine, copper, and other chemicals. ... Do not used distilled water alone since its extreme purity can be harmful to the leeches' metabolic balance. Keep the water clean and cool.

There used to be a Pronature in Gracefield, could be worth looking into.

looking after them is not the issue, finding them appears to be a bigger challenge. I'm looking for 2 pounds. My regular guy is out and is telling me it's been a bad year for harvesting. I don't want to pay retail by the dozen, it gets a tad expensive

Heading up the 105 tomorrow morning, i'll stop in whichever bait and tackle shops are open and ask about their remaining leech stock ;) ;)
