I am new to fishing, so far I have tried South Nation Conservation past Rockland, Merrickville, Long Sault and Morris Island Conservation...

Looking for some tips and advice on the best fishing spot from shore in Eastern Ontario and Ottawa Valley Area...would not mind driving an hour to 1.30hr

If you want to get out for a quick fish, and beat the heat, the rapids at Champlain Bridge on the Ontario side produce many Smallies - I've had 50-70 fish days an afternoon easy. Many small ones though. You have to wade out to knee deep and be steady on your feet. Note - if you wade for a long time, you will feel it in your legs the next day ... constant holding yourself against the current is good exercise. Also, a life jacket is worth it if you stumble. Watch for holes too, one step, and 4 plus feet hole.

There are some great spots you toss a jig and twister, and crank it back fast and its non-stop smallies... with surprise redhorse, pike, and catfish --- I fish it in July / August upstream from the bridge when the water is low . Rumours of trout, yes, but I've never seen one.

Not a secret spot, but I think it gets less action cause of fast water wading and peoples comfort fishing thin fast water.

Hi,

Here I attach a picture of the fishing spot I fish usually when I don't have time to go far away.
Cast from the shore into deep water near current.
Use technique that called plunking (main line ->one sliding weight-> then swivel-> then leader->then hook with worm or whatever).
You can also try to use dropshoting- cast to the same place - into the pool of slow moving water.
I used to catch there fish all the time: walleyes in may, sucker, catfish, bass, etc.

I wish you a good luck in your shore fishing.
