Edible fish

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Edible fish

Post by Errol »

I am new to the area and recently learned that Muskrat Lake was a good lake to fish for a variety of fish. I do support catch and release but I also like to go home with catch for a meal every now and then. I was told the fish were edible but after reading about the blue-green algae blooms that at times are found on the lake. Should this be a concern when this occurs? Appreciate knowledgeable advise\experience.

Although not aesthetically pleasing to fish during a blue-green algae bloom; fish consumption will not be impacted.

I've fished Muskrat for years. My advice, don't eat anything out of the lake. Although there is technically nothing wrong with the fish, they don't taste very nice. Most species in the lake, feed mainly on Smelt.
