The Snow walleye -an unexpected guest

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

The Snow walleye -an unexpected guest

Post by kingofbeasts »

My first year in Canada is almost complete so starting with the first snow of the year I found some time for my first report here. Usually, back home, I used to go out searching for big northern pike when I use to see the snowflakes falling from the sky . This is just what I have done here as well so I took my favorite pike rod and went to search for it were I last saw one at the end of October: at the Parliament Building.
I’ve done my best for half a day walking up and down the banks searching for a big mama or even a pike but no luck. Tired and with the moral hiding deep down in my trousers, I started searching for everything that swims and soon pike food started to appear for a picture. A handful of walleyes stopped by to say hello:

Next couple of days I went prepared with my walleye rod and I had a blast. :) Then , the temperatures went below freezing and was impossible to fish anymore. Unfortunately I can only upload 3 pics so you can only imagine how good it feels to be kept warm by hungry walleyes.

Ps. Please excuse my English I don’t master it that well for the time being.( one of the reasons for which I rarely post here as well:p )

Looks like a good time! Now to wait for the hardwater and get back at it.

Well, ice fishing is not really my thing . I have next to no knowledge in this field, I’ve barely put together some equipment last spring and I have no buddy to fish with during winter ( I do have my wife as an excellent team mate during summer but she hates cold weather ) .That being said ,I can pretty much say that when the river freezes, I’m In for a long break :)
On the other hand, this is a very good time for building rods and read about fishing for me so it won’t be all lost :)

Congrats man! Please don't let your language skills prevent you from posting. Fishing pix are fishing pix!

But you WILL want to get your thumb out of that walleye's mouth. :-)
