December fishing-Beaches to ice fishing some freak

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

December fishing-Beaches to ice fishing some freak

Post by Mike P »

Started off my Dec fishing in Cabo San Lucas Mexico. Went looking for species I haven't caught before and was able to take a few off the list. Fishing with either a friend of mine or my Dad we landed some Jack Crevalle, Needlefish, Yellowfin tuna, Spanish mackerel, Trigger fish, Bonito, Grouper, and some Rooster's.

Arrived back home Fri afternoon Dec 16, slept for a few hours and onto the ice. Ended my first outing on the ice this season with 2 speck's in the 15-16 inch range.

Image

My next outing I decided to stick with the specks and was rewarded with a true valley 5lber actually 5,03lbs. A personal best.

Few days later I released 9 specks in the 16 inch range.

Out walleye fishing with my Son.

My last fish of 2016 was a freak, a true freak with a hump like a pink salmon and a head like a small moth....a beautiful freak 4.8 lbs released for another day, after it's release I put my rod away a little happier with 2016.

Mike
Saltwater is cool, but those specks got my attention. Heckuva finish for 2016, checkered flag!

MIKE!!!!!

Good too see you back on the site. These trout reports have been missed. Congrats on the PB.

The salt water fish are sweet, but Like Len said, those speckies take the cake.

Keep the reports coming!

In a word "WOW" what a beautiful fish! My heart would have skipped a beat seeing that fish come up to the hole. Nice pics of the fish in the hole as well. That's a fish dreams and hopes are made of.

Nice

I see you've been saving up for the big time fishing trips. Which of those exotics tasted best?

Love the specs. Congrats on the PB. It's a beauty.

Yeah it's been said elsewhere  you're killing it Mike! You can retire specks for 2016 satisfied already. Might as well get into the back lakes and pound a brown, take a splake or tow in a bow.
