Since Shallow Walleye are Trending

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Since Shallow Walleye are Trending

Post by Yannick Loranger »

Some dandys from our last couple guide trips on the Ottawa. All caught mid-day in less than 4'.

A big congrats to Marty (lvace) for his insane day on the Ottawa. He was sending me text updates live and his excitement was evident. Marty's a very gifted fisherman yet he still books me two or three times a year. It's a joy for me seeing my guests have great days on the Ottawa when they put what they've learned on my boat to use. I hope everyone is enjoying the early season. So far so good for us on the Lower Ottawa.

Good shootin Yannick.

I personally would not consider those dandies, but very nice walleye none the less.

Thanks Luke. I suppose "dandy" is a relative term. I didn't realize we had such a literal administrator. lol

Let's just agree those are nice eyes, and a little smaller on the "dandy scale". I am 100% certain we will see more dandies grace the gunnels of your rig by clients and yourself. You certainly have your home waters figured out and your fishing success increases at a steady rate on an annual basis.

Sorry if I offended. You'very shared your fair share of dandies on here over the years. Keep it up!!!

I think you have to determine the meaning of Dandy.
If it's over 50cm. it's only a picture fish.
If it's between 40-50 cm it could very well be a dinner fish.
If it's under 40 cm it's a deformed fish. ( head to close to tail)
You're off to a great start to the season, keep 'em coming.

All we're allowed to keep on the Ottawa until June 15th are deformed fish then! Lol.

Beauty eyes Yan! Great to see them still biting in the shallows!

For those who don't know, until june 15th your only allowed to keep under 15.7 inch eyes in the Ottawa River.

For the Rideau and other bodies of water in zone 18 its 15.7-19.7 inches until it closes.

Great message there regarding utilizing guides for knowledge rather than just an outing on unfamiliar water.

These guys live and breath on these local waters and repeat clients typically only happen when folks get on and boat fish!

And for those following, Marty has been boating his fair share of 'eyes this season!!!!

Kudos to you Yannick for sharing your passion and knowledge!
