Anyone have any suggestions for areas for targeting trout then the ice melts.

Looking for places hopefully accessible within the city. If you have other ideas. Let me know.

I've never targeted trout before.

The only places trout swim in the City of Ottawa, are the tanks at T&T store and the Ottawa river. Rainbows at the T&T, and browns in the Ottawa. Browns have been stocked in the past below Deschenes rapids and have heard they might be caught if lucky along the Ottawa river parkway in fast water. I don't know if they still swim for sure not having targeted or caught one myself.

You can use this tool to see every stocked lake in the area. Good luck!

Just checked fish-online and while there is no stocking info on the city section of the Ottawa river, browns are on the species list.

The Browns in the Ottawa were stocked by Quebec, not Ontario.

Update here. Most of the browns ARE stocked in the river by the Ottawa Fly Fishers Club.

I think the closest options are in just north of here in Quebec.

Yeah that's seems like it might be an option too.

I've never fished in Quebec, so I am not even sure where to start there.

25 years ago I saw a school of 10 -15 browns just below the Chaudiere dam.

Findlay creek, Poole creek and Shields creek have all been stocked with approx. 500 brown every year for the past 10 years. Wether or not there is a surviving fishable population is another question altogether. I have been looking into it and these are the areas that have gotten me curious.

This is one from Poole Creek.......caught in 2008, late fall, at night. I fished the creek a lot, as I used to live within walking distance. Fishing was sketchy at best for the most part, but every once in a while......SCORE!!

Is Poole Creek connected to the Ottawa? If so that fish was probably one of those stocked and came in from the main river to spawn. However not knowing how big Poole Creek is and its food sources it is amazing where a big brown can live. I once caught a 5lber from a ditch that flowed thru a cow pasture. It's stomach was full of big bullfrogs.
