Eatin' Rock Bass - and a (true) tall tale !!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Eatin' Rock Bass - and a (true) tall tale !!

Post by Hosseye »

Gday Folks
So had the fam on the boat yesterday looking for crappie and ran into a honey hole of rock bass... there were some serious fish commin' up, between the four of us we caught easily 30 rock bass.
So my question is, are they good eatin' and worth the trouble. Well they werent any trouble.

Also a story to believe or not.... so as i said we were out fishn yesterday and the 10 yr old was with us, he decided a red gummy bear was enticing to the fish so he put one on his hook with a worm. After catching numerous panies he lost his gummy bear.
About 45 min later I reeled in a good size rock bass, as i was takin it off the hook and I crap YOU NOT the red gummy bear came out of his mouth and landed on the seat beside me !!!!!
We were in awe and laughing our heads off at that fact that this could even happen, never mind the odds .....
This my friends is no fish tale but a true story !!!!

They are good to eat, they seem to have a little bigger ribcage so you dont get as much meat off of them as you do the equivalent sized crappie but its still worth the effort. Probably get the same amount of meat as you would a bluegill or pumpkinseed and they taste just as good.

If the rock bass have been feeding on gummy bears I cannot see how they would not be good to eat.
